Lagos police arrested a man for allegedly counterfeiting 197<br />
cart<strong>on</strong>s of Procold tablets and 3 cart<strong>on</strong>s of Exad<strong>on</strong> tablets.<br />
Nigerian Customs handed over a suspected fake medicine<br />
importer to NAFDAC for further investigati<strong>on</strong>. The suspect was<br />
arrested with 12 bags of Cipro tablets.<br />
NAFDAC seized a c<strong>on</strong>signment of fake Tramadol at the Mallam<br />
Aminu Kano Internati<strong>on</strong>al Airport <strong>on</strong> July 23, 2010.<br />
NAFDAC raided pharmaceutical stores in Yola, Jimeta, and<br />
surrounding areas, seizing fake antimalarials and antibiotics,<br />
including Fansidar, Camoquine, Metakelfin, and Augmentin.<br />
As part of the government’s efforts to rid the country of fake,<br />
substandard, and illegal drug operators, the Lagos State Task<br />
Force <strong>on</strong> Counterfeit, Fake Drugs, and Unwholesome Processed<br />
Foods shut down 1,253 illegal pharmaceutical outlets at Idumota<br />
in October 2010.<br />
NAFDAC closed down a pharmacy in Abeokuta for allegedly<br />
selling counterfeit medicines. Following inspecti<strong>on</strong> by Truscan,<br />
all fake versi<strong>on</strong>s were impounded.<br />
During unscheduled visits, NAFDAC impounded several drugs<br />
that are suspected to be fakes from various pharmacies and<br />
patent stores in Benue State. In the course of the raids, oral<br />
rehydrati<strong>on</strong> salts––d<strong>on</strong>ated from UNICEF and to be distributed<br />
free of charge––were found <strong>on</strong> sale.<br />
