without licenses. The spokesman for the State Ministry of<br />

Health stated that unregistered medicines, some suspected to be<br />

substandard, were seized.<br />

NAFDAC seized “fake drugs and unwholesome products”<br />

worth N70 milli<strong>on</strong> (<strong>US</strong>D $450,000) in Sokoto state and arrested<br />

over 400 culprits.<br />

NAFDAC sealed 10 pharmaceutical outlets in Ekiti State for<br />

alleged sale of fake drugs and other unethical practices.<br />

Lagos State Task Force <strong>on</strong> Counterfeit, Fake Drugs, and<br />

Unwholesome Processed Foods sealed 20 illegal drug stores and<br />

arrested 5 illegal operators.<br />

NAFDAC arrested 30 medicine dealers, including pharmacists,<br />

who allegedly were involved with the sale of fake and<br />

substandard drugs.<br />

NAFDAC seized unregistered and counterfeit medicines worth<br />

more than N100 milli<strong>on</strong> (<strong>US</strong>D $632,000) at Okrika and Eleme<br />

local government areas of Rivers State.<br />

In Anambra State, NAFDAC destroyed N280 milli<strong>on</strong> (<strong>US</strong>D<br />

$1.77 milli<strong>on</strong>) worth of fake and counterfeit products, including<br />

fake medicines, cosmetics, and food products.<br />

During Truscan surveys, NAFDAC seized various categories of<br />

fake and substandard medicines worth over N50 milli<strong>on</strong> (<strong>US</strong>D<br />

$316,000).<br />

In a study carried out by the University of Lagos, 13<br />

representative brands of artesunate/amodiaquine were sampled<br />

from various outlets in Lagos. Results of testing showed that<br />
