Driving Greater Service with MRS at Hovensa
Presenters: William Tabbert & Joe Hazi, Hovensa
Intermediate
This presentation will outline where Hovensa has been, and
where it is now in regard to planning and scheduling. Specifically,
William Tabbert and Joe Hazi will display how Hovensa’s SAP
MRS instance is set up and functioning in the facility.
best Practices for Effective Capital
Project Execution
Presenter: Nick Cutsumbis, FirstEnergy
Intermediate
FirstEnergy Corporation, a diversified energy company headquartered
in Akron, Ohio, is involved in generation, transmission and
distribution of electricity, as well as energy management and
other energy-related services. FirstEnergy uses both SAP and
Primavera to plan and execute major and minor capital projects
for its distribution lines of business. In an effort to reduce planning
time, minimize costs and capitalize on existing investments
in equipment and infrastructure throughout these capital projects,
FirstEnergy sought to integrate the two systems.
This case study presentation will address challenges that FirstEnergy
encountered prior to integration and benefits realized afterwards.
Focus will be on real world application of best practices
and lessons learned as it relates to other companies looking to
maximize their SAP investment.
Lessons:
• The project budget must originate from work schedule
• An automated project forecast from Primavera into
SAP is possible
• Using Primavera LOE activities allows the SAP accounting structure
and Primavera project structure to talk to each other
by Facilities Owner
Presenter: Petr Chmelar, Dow Corning
Intermediate
In this session explore project management in SAP PS from
the Facilities Owner perspective. Petr Chmelar, of Dow Corning
Corporation, will cover setting up project structure, defining
work by company resources, and the procurement of services
from EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction)
companies. Petr will also cover planning of work, project
execution, and financial reporting.
Lessons:
• Project management and planning in SAP (without 3rd party
scheduling software) to maximize your SAP investment
• Change management for PS workflow acceptance
• Work in multicultural global environment for implementation
in company facilities
Implementing Plant Maintenance in a
Non-Manufacturing Environment
Presenter: Romero San Agustin, Port of San Diego
Beginner
“Shutdown/Turnaround”, “Reliability-Centric” and “Results-
Oriented” are terms seldom spoken at the Port of San Diego.
Instead, reporting costs for the upkeep of the District’s parks
and assets are more common practices. In October 2006, the
Port of San Diego issued a Request for Proposal to implement
SAP Plant Maintenance for the District’s General Services
Department. The vendor selection process came down to two
firms with different philosophies, one specialized in public sector
implementations, and the other in EAM. The selection panel
recommended the EAM approach hoping to capitalize on how
the rest of the world managed its maintenance. Throughout
the project lifecycle, re-engineering processes, designs and
best practices were made. Flexibility was the key to this
project’s success — the team and the system.
Lessons:
• You know your business, do not rely so much on how the rest
of the world does things
• Your implementation partners learn as much from you as you
do from them
• Have a very good contingency plan
