Maintenance Effectiveness
& Reliability
10:45 - 11:45 MONDAY
Process Safety Management —
Integration with SAP
Presenter: Norm Poynter, Nexen Inc.
Intermediate
Process safety management places increased demands on your
EAM software. Specifically, regarding equipment and process
integrity, your CMMS system must provide mechanisms for management,
reporting, and issue resolution related to critical safety
equipment. This presentation will take a look at Nexen Inc.’s Risk
Based Process Safety Framework and how SAP will become an
integral tool.
Discussion Points will include:
• Risk based framework (center for chemical process safety)
• Leading and lagging indicators
• How to track in SAP foundation elements required for the
Process Safety Management System to function
• Challenges to consider and how Nexen Inc. is solving them
Lessons:
• Consistency of approach is key to the success of the
management system
• Foundation must exist
• Culture and information management
• Reporting — keeping it simple requires granularity;
granularity requires more effort
Improving Fleet Preventative Maintenance
through RFID
Presenter: Natalie Christensen, City of Abbotsford
Intermediate
The City of Abbotsford identified that it had considerable administrative
inefficiencies surrounding the manual collection of
odometer readings and operating hours for the fleet. The impact
of inaccurate and missing data has cost the municipality time
and money in wasted management and administration time,
CONFERENCE DAY 1: TRACK 3
Usability, Access to
Information & ROI
“Progress comes from intelligent use of experience.”
missed maintenance events, premature maintenance events,
and inaccurate data.
In order to improve data collection within the SAP PM module,
the city has introduced a radio-frequency data transfer system
supplied by U-Con systems. The “Wireless Data Modules” plug
directly into the ECM of the vehicles and equipment, and utilizes
RF to capture odometer readings, operating hours and other
critical operating data. The implementation of this system has
allowed the city to ensure securing accurate vehicle data, and
obtaining critical reporting information.
Lessons:
Importance of accurate data for…
• Proper preventative maintenance
• Vehicle justification reports
• Cost efficiencies
using Measurement Points to Capture
History of Equipment
Presenter: Stephen Erslon, ConocoPhillips
Beginner
Manage and develop equipment history within SAP to capture
history against an asset. ConocoPhillips uses measurement points
to assist in tracking history for mechanical equipment. Through
coding and designing, you can implement a system for your
plant’s reliability group and craftsmen to easily enter data points.
Capturing data within SAP negates the need to use satellite systems
and keeps out information within the legacy system. Learn
how ConocoPhillips developed their measurement points and
how it expects to expand interests to many more types of assets.
Lessons:
• It’s easy to capture data history
• Analyze data capture
• Asset performance
