Tortebat made the 12 copperplates drawn from Vesalius but the text is of Roger de Piles
(Paris, 1635-1709) the famous art writer. He takes Titian for the artist of the tables.
Someones believe Tortebat is the pseudonym for de Piles.

The edition quoted is one of several. It contains two engravings ‘Tournoy où le roy Henry II
fut blessé à mort’ and ‘La mort du roy Henry deuxième’; the latter shows the wounded king
in bed surrounded by courtiers and with Vesalius and Paré in attendance. There is also a
facsimile edition of the plates in Les grandes scènes historiques du XVIe siècle; facsimile
reproduction of J. Tortorel et J. Perrissin published under the direction of M. Alfred
Franklin, Paris, Fischbacher, 1886.
