MON 5 - THU 8 DECEMBER
between 8.00am & 4.00pm
There will be a selection of books
and fun packs which would make
ideal presents for younger
brothers or sisters, all at reasonable prices. Any
items purchased must be paid for before
Thursday 8 December First Break.
There will be a second chance to attend the Book
Fair at the Darwell Campus, also held in the
Learning Resource Centre, from
MON 12 - WED 14 DECEMBER

READING FOR PLEASURE
IMPROVING READING
During Term 1, Year 7 pupils have been taking
on-line assessments to measure their reading,
comprehension and higher order thinking skills
using the Accelerated Reader (AR) programme.
The assessments give an initial guide in the form
of a Book Level (BL) enabling pupils to choose
books from a selection matching these levels.
By reading at their given level, they are assured of
being able to complete the book yet still have the
challenge of learning new words along the way.
Once read, the pupil takes an on-line quiz based
on the book.
Readers are monitored and encouraged to read for
at least 20 minutes each day, independently, with a
partner or read to by a family member.
Pupils may also select AR books from the school
library by viewing them on-line at
www.arbookfind.co.uk using Key code:
IJ234190 to view titles stocked by the Darwell
Campus Learning Resource Centre.
The programme is aimed at encouraging children
to read for pleasure by incorporating fun quizzes
using ICT.
In Term 2 further incentives will be introduced for
effort and achievement.
