OLD UNIFORM SENT TO AFRICA
More than 1000 old and new school uniforms were
shipped to Africa over the summer. Mr Mativenga
organised for T-shirts to be sent to Chisungo School
in Zimbabwe. They were so excited about receiving
them, even the teachers had been trying them on!!
The uniforms will be used during sports events and
the different colour logos will finally allow pupils the
opportunity to represent their team. 500 jumpers
have also been shared between three local villages
in the Midland Provence.
Boxes of uniforms have also been shipped to Sierra
Leone. The clothes arrived safely at Huntingdon
Junior and Senior Secondary School, who The St
BP TRADING CHALLENGE HITS HASTINGS!
THE ST LEONARDS ACADEMY
Leonards Academy continues to have a strong link
with. The local community are also going to use the
uniform during special events. Teachers at the
school extend their thanks to all staff, pupils and
parents who have supported the link.
Amber Rudd, the local MP, has expressed her thanks
by writing a letter to the school: "This is a
wonderful gesture by staff and pupils from the old
Filsham Valley School and it is an excellent project
to show young people in Hastings and St Leonards
that children in other parts of the world do not have
the same advantages that we take for granted in
this country."
In the first cross academy enterprise event both St
Leonards and Hastings academies welcomed
representatives of BP to their venues so that students could
experience the buying and selling of shares on the stock
market.
Nearly 500 students across three sites benefited from the
experience, with teams working to make the most of the
'money' they had to play with. Enterprise and employability
skills were to the fore - along with a real-life application of
numeracy.
As in real life trading, there were some who invested wisely
and were rewarded with a healthy bank balance - others
were left nursing a substantial debt. All left the experience
with a greater understanding of the stock market, and an
enhanced ability in terms of teamwork and decision
making!
