What an amazing start to the
new Academy. New people, new
uniform and new name. We are
now known as the Austen School
after students voted. We have
several key people in our Team
whose job it is to ensure that
every student is known, cared for
and nurtured. We want every
student in our school to achieve
the best that they possibly can,
be involved in academy life and
be prepared for what life has to
offer them.

Simon Page Es12: I am based at the Edinburgh
Campus. Over the last few weeks I have involved
myself in many activities. I was proud and happy to
be chosen to be a buddy to a new student starting
here. My job was to make them feel welcome and to
show them around the campus, making sure that they
knew where to go for lessons and at breaktimes. I
also volunteered to help out at the Parents’ Evening,
showing people around a bunker from World War I,
which we had reconstructed in a classroom! For my
help my Tutor nominated me as Student of The Week.
I received a certificate and some Vivomiles for being
nominated.
I have really enjoyed the first few weeks of the term
and I hope that it will stay as good for me over the
rest of my time as a student here.
Kaith Domingo Es11: I have been at the Edinburgh
Campus of The St Leonards Academy for over four
years, since the beginning of Year 7. I am currently in
Year 11. There have been clear, positive changes
throughout the years which has made learning much
better for us. Recently I was put forward to be an
Academy Leader which has given me the opportunity
to show the confidence, skills and leadership I’ve
achieved throughout my time here. Knowing that I
get to be involved in school life makes me so proud as
I know that I can help students become aware of any
changes and air students’ views in return. As
Academy Leaders, we assure you that our leadership
will represent good company, positive attitudes
towards education and equality amongst students.
Sky Lee-Ryan Es16: I have been nominated by two
members of staff to become one of the first ever St
Leonards Academy Leaders. Becoming a student
leader has opened up a variety of opportunities for not
just me but for you too. You now have the
opportunity to come forward with any ideas that will
increase your enjoyment in school. I am proud as an
Academy Leader to be able to make positive
developments to the school and pleased with the
knowledge that it will be even better for you after I
leave.
I can assure you that we will all be helpful, friendly
and supportive of your contributions. Your ideas will
help improve and develop the school positively for you
and your learning environment.
