What an amazing start to the<br />

new <strong>Academy</strong>. New people, new<br />

uniform and new name. We are<br />

now known as the Austen School<br />

after students voted. We have<br />

several key people in our Team<br />

whose job it is to ensure that<br />

every student is known, cared for<br />

and nurtured. We want every<br />

student in our school to achieve<br />

the best that they possibly can,<br />

be involved in academy life and<br />

be prepared for what life has to<br />

offer them.<br />

Simon Page Es12: I am based at the Edinburgh<br />

Campus. Over the last few weeks I have involved<br />

myself in many activities. I was proud and happy to<br />

be chosen to be a buddy to a new student starting<br />

here. My job was to make them feel welcome and to<br />

show them around the campus, making sure that they<br />

knew where to go for lessons and at breaktimes. I<br />

also volunteered to help out at the Parents’ Evening,<br />

showing people around a bunker from World War I,<br />

which we had reconstructed in a classroom! For my<br />

help my Tutor nominated me as <strong>St</strong>udent of <strong>The</strong> Week.<br />

I received a certificate and some Vivomiles for being<br />

nominated.<br />

I have really enjoyed the first few weeks of the <strong>term</strong><br />

and I hope that it will stay as good for me over the<br />

rest of my time as a student here.<br />

Kaith Domingo Es11: I have been at the Edinburgh<br />

Campus of <strong>The</strong> <strong>St</strong> <strong>Leonards</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> for over four<br />

years, since the beginning of Year 7. I am currently in<br />

Year 11. <strong>The</strong>re have been clear, positive changes<br />

throughout the years which has made learning much<br />

better for us. Recently I was put forward to be an<br />

<strong>Academy</strong> Leader which has given me the opportunity<br />

to show the confidence, skills and leadership I’ve<br />

achieved throughout my time here. Knowing that I<br />

get to be involved in school life makes me so proud as<br />

I know that I can help students become aware of any<br />

changes and air students’ views in return. As<br />

<strong>Academy</strong> Leaders, we assure you that our leadership<br />

will represent good company, positive attitudes<br />

towards education and equality amongst students.<br />

Sky Lee-Ryan Es16: I have been nominated by two<br />

members of staff to become one of the first ever <strong>St</strong><br />

<strong>Leonards</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> Leaders. Becoming a student<br />

leader has opened up a variety of opportunities for not<br />

just me but for you too. You now have the<br />

opportunity to come forward with any ideas that will<br />

increase your enjoyment in school. I am proud as an<br />

<strong>Academy</strong> Leader to be able to make positive<br />

developments to the school and pleased with the<br />

knowledge that it will be even better for you after I<br />

leave.<br />

I can assure you that we will all be helpful, friendly<br />

and supportive of your contributions. Your ideas will<br />

help improve and develop the school positively for you<br />

and your learning environment.
