Bob, Betty Buell, & Betty Sanders on the move! Our New Chef Manager: Le Roy Patten Le Roy Patten was born right here in San Diego, California. During those childhood days, his favorite thing to do with family was camping in the Laguna Mountains. After growing up, Le Roy decided to explore a long-term career as a Chef. He worked his way through school at Grossmont College learning business management. He has enhanced his career through great experience and many seminars to Veterans’ Ceremony For the month of November, Belmont endeavors to honor our many wonderful veterans—both residents and staff. The ceremony will include pinning, saluting, presentation and acknowledgments. Wednesday, Nov. 28 Veterans’ Ceremony Great Room at 3:15 p.m. become a better chef. He has been in the restaurant business since 1979 and is thrilled about satisfying people’s taste buds. Working at Claim Jumper, Le Roy quickly made his way up to senior management. Lucky for Belmont, four and a half years ago, he opened Belmont Cardiff as the Chef Manager. Le Roy and his wife Debbie have two sons. He enjoys detailing motorcycles and cars. As well, he owns two Harley Davidson bikes, which you might see him ride to work. Not only has he traveled all over the world but he has been to 47 of the 50 United States. What he loves most about Belmont is that, “Every day is a history lesson.” Thanks for joining our team to make Josephine’s Kitchen a pleasurable place to eat. We look forward to our 3 “Locally Designated Meals” each month to experience his cuisine.
Circle of Friends News When describing the Circle of Friends program, the word “therapeutic” is generally used in conjunction with the phrase “activity program.” Is this just something we threw in because it sounds good? Well, yes, but only because it’s true! The program was created with therapeutic benefits in mind, using research based methodology. We assess each resident in the program every three months using a tool called the Dementia Older Adults Rating Scale (DOARS). The DOARS shows us the degree of dementia each resident is experiencing, and gives us insight as to which parts of the brain are most affected. We have seen that the disease process is slower to progress in residents participating in the program, and for many Circle of Friends residents, their cognitive function actually improves! Circle of Friends visit the Humane Society! Neighborhood News The holiday season is quickly approaching, which means lots of new visitors to the building. We expect to see extended family, out-of-towners, great-grandchildren, and a plethora of folks coming to entertain. While this is wonderful for our residents, this also means a host of new germs coming in as well. Please be diligent about washing your hands frequently, and encouraging your guests to do the same. Also, as much as you want to visit with your loved ones, we ask that you refrain from coming into the building if you are sick, as many of our elderly residents are frail and have compromised immune systems. What might be a sniffle for you could quickly turn into a serious bout of pneumonia for one of our dear residents. Thank you so much for understanding and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
