Electronics Engineering – A Boon for Common Man

Preamble
Today, the everyday life cannot be imagined without
Electronics. The electronic gadgets and their usage have
become pervasive in our daily lives in such a way that it is
impossible to spend even few hours without them. Right
from the start of the day till the time we call it a day, we
use multitude of electronic gadgets to facilitate our work
and to solve our problems. Starting from small alarm
watches to the complex computers, from mobile to the
camcorders, everywhere the electronics items can be
seen. From the kitchen to the toilet, from the bedroom
to the office, electronics seems to be
omnipresent.
Electronics has become indispensable
in our lives as it alleviates our daily
working and lifestyle. For example,
the mobile or the cell phone has
changed the dimensions of
communication. A few decades
back, in the era of the telephone
system, no one would have
imagined combined talking and
walking. But, with the invention of
mobile phones, this has become a
reality.
As per Indian mythology, people having
extraordinary power were able to send message very
quickly. What was the basis of that technology? Were
they using any kind of wireless devices, whose
components are electronic as today's wireless devices.
Whatever it may be, there is no clear idea of those
technologies or no proof that whether they were using

those things. In the 21 century we are enjoying well
developed electronics. In some form or the other every
day we deal with the electronic devices several times.
Mythological flying machines such as Pushpak Vimana
described in Sanskrit epics such as Ramayana is a reality
because of innovations in electronic engineering.
Wireless Internet is rapidly being used and is replacing
the need of a wired Internet connection. People can
drink coffee and check their email all at the same time
while sitting in the cyber-cafe. The electronic peripherals
plugged to the computer have made thing possible like
transaction of money, payment of mobile bills,
reservation of tickets, etc.
Music equipment is the primary user of electronics, both
in playback and in recording mode. CD drives, DVD
players, record players, stereos, tape decks, are all the
result of advancement in electronics technology in the
last few decades. With the use of headphones, music can
be heard without disturbing the nearby people. One can
carry a play-list of hundreds of songs easily in a very small
portable device such as flash drive.
The use of electronics technology in cameras has
dramatically changed the way it is used. A digital
camera is now available at an affordable
price. The cell phones often include a
fairly sophisticated digital camera that
can capture still pictures or even
video pictures. The videos and
pictures can be easily transferred
to a computer where they can be
saved, shared digitally on Internet
or printed out in hard form.
Pictures taken from a camera can
be edited, cropped, enhanced or
enlarged easily through the marvel of
electronics.
A number of electronic devices can be found
in kitchen. From water coolers to microwave ovens,
electronics has spread its arm in the women dominated
region.
Electronic products are now used for farming. An infrared
row-crop guidance system can be used for precision
spraying and cultivating. Electronics has made it easy to
implement precision farming by providing monitors,
sensors, GPS receivers, mapping software, memory cards
and readers. This has resulting in saving time, cost and
resources that otherwise were expensive to rural
farmers.
Electronics equipment are being used extensively in the
health field. They are not only to assist in diagnosis but
also help the researches in providing treatment and cures
for illnesses and even genetic anomalies. Equipment such
