Second SeaSon<br />

Brian Tilley enters his second season<br />

as an assistant men’s lacrosse coach at<br />

<strong>Hartford</strong>.<br />

Tilley’s responsibilities include serveing<br />

as the <strong>Hawks</strong>’ offensive coordina<strong>to</strong>r<br />

and goalie coach. He also assists with<br />

the program’s recruiting. Tilley reunites<br />

with both a program and coach with<br />

which he is very familiar. A graduate<br />

of <strong>Hartford</strong> in 2008, he played for the<br />

<strong>Hawks</strong> from 2005-08 and spent three<br />

seasons under Lawrence’s tutelage.<br />

“It is nice <strong>to</strong> add an alumnus <strong>to</strong> staff<br />

who has so much pride, as well as a<br />

desire <strong>to</strong> help res<strong>to</strong>re the tradition here<br />

at <strong>Hartford</strong>,” said Lawrence at the time of his hire. “Brian has great character,<br />

values, and a tireless work ethic which will transfer <strong>to</strong> our players.”<br />

Tilley, who graduated with a degree in entrepreneurial studies, began his<br />

coaching career as an assistant at Oneonta State. While with the Red Dragons,<br />

he served as the offensive coordina<strong>to</strong>r and piloted the team’s recruiting<br />

efforts. The Red Dragons finished the 2009 season with a 6-10 overall mark<br />

and 2-5 in the SUNYAC.<br />

As a midfielder at the University of <strong>Hartford</strong>, Tilley was a four-year letterwinner,<br />

playing in 57 games. At the end of his senior season, he was deemed the<br />

team’s most valuable player and was selected <strong>to</strong> play in the Turfer Senior<br />

East/West All-Star Game. In the America East Conference goal scoring rankings<br />

in 2008, Tilley ranked second in scoring among midfielders and eighth<br />

overall. At the end of his freshman year, he was selected <strong>to</strong> the America East<br />

All-Rookie Team.<br />

Prior <strong>to</strong> attending <strong>Hartford</strong>, the Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. native played lacrosse<br />

at St. Anthony’s High School in South Hunting<strong>to</strong>n, N.Y. During his tenure at St.<br />

Anthony’s he helped lead his team <strong>to</strong> three N.S.C.H.S.A.A. league championships.<br />

As a senior he earned the lacrosse sportsmanship award.<br />

Will Cullen joins the <strong>Hartford</strong><br />

lacrosse staff as a volunteer assistant<br />

coach for the 2011 season.<br />

Cullen will assist with the <strong>Hawks</strong>’<br />

defense and will run the box for<br />

the Scarlet and White.<br />

Cullen began his coaching career<br />

in November of 2009 when he<br />

was named an assistant varsity<br />

lacrosse coach and the head<br />

junior varsity lacrosse coach at<br />

North Haven High School. During his tenure with the Indians, he<br />

held the responsibilities of implementing the squad’s offense and<br />

defense as well as the man-up and man-down units.<br />

In addition, Cullen serves as a member of the BIG 3 Lacrosse Boys’<br />

Camp coaching staff, and is currently the head coach for the organization’s<br />

summer and fall travel teams based out of North Haven,<br />

Conn. Cullen also served as the direc<strong>to</strong>r of North Haven Lacrosse<br />

Camps for three years.<br />

Cullen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in sports management<br />

from Mount Ida College in New<strong>to</strong>n, Mass. where he was a<br />

four-member of the lacrosse team (2004-08). A team captain in his<br />

final season, Cullen helped lead the Mustangs <strong>to</strong> four consecutive<br />

North Atlantic Conference regular season titles and four-straight<br />

conference <strong>to</strong>urnament championships.<br />
