Fresh off the program’s best season
since 2003, head Peter Lawrence is
excited to build on the momentum that
was generated last season and pilot
the Hawks to their ultimate goal – an
America East Conference championship.
An impressive mix of talented veterans
and youth come together under Lawrence
to form the 2011 Hartford men’s
lacrosse team, a squad that is booming
with confidence and poised to take
Hartford to the next level. With 19
returning upperclassmen and a strong
core of versatile freshmen and sophomores
on the roster, the Hawks will look
to make noise in the conference and
capture their first America East title
since the 2003 season.
The Hawks, who lost six games by two
goals or less, including five by a single
tally last year, return all but one
starter including a league-high eight
all-conference performers and nearly
90-percent of the offense from last
year’s squad. Four of Hartford’s top
five scorers return from a team that
ranked second in America East scoring
(10.00 goals per game). The Hawks
also have all-conference performers in
the key positions of goalkeeper in junior
Scott Bement and at face-off spe-

cialist in senior Tim Fallon.
Ranked third in the America East by
the league’s coaches in its annual preseason
poll, the Hawks are in a position
that no one would have predicted
two years ago, but are well aware of
the raised expectations. Experience,
depth and confidence have this year’s
Hartford lacrosse team ready to compete
in the competitive America East
conference against preseason favorites
Stony Brook and Albany.
ATTACK
Hartford boast great depth in the attack
this season, anchored by returners
Aidan Genik, Ryan Compitello and
Rory Nunamacher. For the first time in
Lawrence’s hiring, the Hawks will be
adding a new feature to their already
potent attack. Instead of playing his
three starting attackers in for 60 minutes,
Lawrence now has the luxury of
utilizing a five-man rotation, allowing
legs to stay fresh as well as the opportunity
to keep opponents on their heels
with a constant mix of new personnel.
Junior attack Aidan Genik, a crafty
righty around the cage, is coming off
one of the most impressive offensive
seasons in recent history, in which he

scored a team-high 36 goals and added
nine assists. A second-team pick in
2010, Genik proved to show up in big
moments as he netted the game-winner
in the comeback win against Quinnipiac,
and again when he scored a
career-high five goals in a tight loss to
America East rival Stony Brook.
The remaining two spots on the Hawks’
attack will be filled by Rory Nunamacher,
a sophomore, and junior Ryan
Compitello. Compitello, Genik’s lefty
counterpart who joined his classmate
on the America East All-Academic
squad a year ago, led the Hawks with
21 assists while starting 12 games.
Lawrence expects Compitello to play a
major role in this year’s offense which
amassed an impressive 10.0 goals per
game in 2010.
Nunamacher made an immediate impact
on the Hawks’ offense as a freshman,
seeing time in all 14 games while
appearing in the starting lineup in half
of the contests. He tallied 12 points on
nine goals and three assists en route to
earning America East All-Rookie Team
honors.
