AMERICA EAST<br />

Now in its fourth decade of operation, America East<br />

has evolved in<strong>to</strong> one of the most comprehensive<br />

NCAA Division I conferences with a commitment <strong>to</strong><br />

broad-based, competitive athletics programs, complementing<br />

the academic integrity and missions of the<br />

member institutions.<br />

Progressive in its approach <strong>to</strong> its more than 3,400<br />

student-athletes, America East recognizes champions<br />

in each of its 20 sports: baseball, men's and women's<br />

basketball, men's and women's cross country, field<br />

hockey, men's and women's indoor track and field,<br />

men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's outdoor<br />

track and field, men's and women's soccer, softball,<br />

men's and women's swimming and diving, men's<br />

and women's tennis, and women’s volleyball. America<br />

East also conducts the nation’s most comprehensive<br />

academic recognition program for student-athletes.<br />

With a geographic footprint covering the Mid-Atlantic <strong>to</strong> Northeast regions of the United States,<br />

America East strives <strong>to</strong> develop champions in academics, athletics and leadership at its nine<br />

member institutions: University at Albany, Bingham<strong>to</strong>n University, Bos<strong>to</strong>n University, University of<br />

<strong>Hartford</strong>, University of Maine, UMBC, University of New Hampshire, S<strong>to</strong>ny Brook University and<br />

University of Vermont.<br />

ACADEMICS…<br />

• Vermont captured its sixth straight America East Academic Cup in 2010 after its studentathletes<br />

registered a cumulative 3.19 grade-point average, which was the best mark in<br />

the award’s 15-year his<strong>to</strong>ry. New Hampshire recorded a 3.16 GPA and also eclipsed<br />

the former standard, while five other schools earned a 3.0 GPA or better.<br />

• America East’s 3,400 student-athletes registered a combined 3.05 GPA during the<br />

2009-10 academic year and over 60 percent of them were named <strong>to</strong> America East’s<br />

Academic Honor Roll for recording GPA’s of 3.0 or better.<br />

• Seven student-athletes were tabbed ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans<br />

during the 2009-10 season, the league’s most since the 2005-06 academic year.<br />

Twenty others were All-District selections.<br />

• Bingham<strong>to</strong>n’s Sven Vloedgraven (tennis) and Vermont’s May Kotsopoulos (basketball)<br />

were the America East Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively.<br />

• Twenty-four America East teams were publicly recognized by the NCAA for their multiyear<br />

Academic Progress Rate (APR), for finishing among the <strong>to</strong>p 10 percent of teams in<br />

the nation, the league’s most since 2006.<br />

ATHLETICS…<br />

• Bos<strong>to</strong>n University won the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup for the fifth straight<br />

year and eighth time in the last nine years after capturing a league-high tying six championships,<br />

three regular-season titles and three runner-up finishes during the 2009-10
