Miguel Madrigal, MBA ’99, recently was<br />

promoted to general manager <strong>of</strong> business<br />

development for Peabody Energy. Miguel<br />

primarily will be responsible for expanding<br />

the company’s business platform in<br />

Australia. He will be based in Brisbane<br />

and will be an integral part <strong>of</strong> the Australian<br />

senior management team. Miguel joined<br />

the company in 2006 as general manager<br />

<strong>of</strong> Venezuelan operations. Prior to joining<br />

Peabody, he led Venezuelan operations for<br />

Excel Coal. He also served as corporate<br />

finance adviser to a variety <strong>of</strong> mining<br />

companies in his role as associate director<br />

at RFC Corporate Finance Ltd., a Sydney,<br />

Australia-based investment bank.<br />

Lee Shainis, BBA ’99, recently celebrated<br />

the 10th anniversary <strong>of</strong> his nonpr<strong>of</strong>it,<br />

Intercambio de Comunidades. The<br />

Carl Hasselbarth, BBA ’03, won the 2009<br />

James E. Beckley Securities Arbitration and<br />

Law Writing Competition sponsored by the<br />

Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association<br />

(PIABA). The article, “How Should We<br />

Regulate Hedge Funds?,” is slated for publication<br />

in the PIABA Bar Journal. Carl recently<br />

graduated from Brooklyn Law <strong>School</strong>. He<br />

was inspired to write the piece after working<br />

for Bear Stearns in the summer during which<br />

two major hedge funds crashed.<br />

John Minor Jr., MBA ’03, recently joined<br />

Cary Street Partners in Richmond, Va.,<br />

as a managing director <strong>of</strong> the firm’s<br />

financial institutions group. Prior to Cary<br />

Street, John was a director in the financial<br />

institutions group at Barclays Capital and<br />

Lehman Bros., where he advised on strategic<br />

M&A and capital-raising transactions.<br />

Prior to attending <strong>Ross</strong>, John worked in<br />

the investment banking division <strong>of</strong> BB&T<br />

Capital Markets and Scott & Stringfellow.<br />

Grace Tsuei, MBA ’03, recently was appointed<br />

to the board <strong>of</strong> advisers at JobConcierge.<br />

She currently is a senior human resources<br />

generalist at Feinstein Kean Healthcare,<br />

a life sciences and healthcare communications<br />

firm. Grace also is the founder <strong>of</strong><br />

two entrepreneurial endeavors: H 20 HR,<br />

a human resources consulting practice, and<br />

MaiZinGrace Designs, a jewelry design<br />

and party business. Throughout her career,<br />

Grace has focused her efforts in strategic<br />

human resources for a variety <strong>of</strong> global<br />

corporations, including GlaxoSmithKline,<br />

J. Crew, Rodale, Aramark, KPMG,<br />

DuPont, Merck, and Timberland.<br />

Marilyn Shazor, MBA ’05, recently was<br />

appointed to the Chatfield College Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Trustees. Chatfield College is Ohio’s<br />

only private, Catholic, three-year liberal arts<br />

college. Marilyn is CEO <strong>of</strong> Cincinnati<br />

Metro, a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it, tax-funded public<br />

service <strong>of</strong> the Southwest Ohio Regional<br />

Transit Authority, providing about 22 million<br />

rides per year. Marilyn is the first female<br />

and the first minority to hold the position.<br />

Jonathan Zald, BBA ’05, has joined<br />

Atlantic-Pacific Capital Inc.’s New York<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice as an associate focusing on the direct<br />

private placement effort. Atlantic-Pacific<br />

Capital is the largest independent global<br />

placement agent for alternative investment<br />

funds and direct private placements.<br />

Jonathan previously was an investment<br />

banking analyst with Oppenheimer and<br />

Co. in both the leveraged finance and<br />

mergers and acquisitions departments.<br />

Tom morley, mBA<br />

’02, is president <strong>of</strong> lube Stop, an<br />

$18 million quick oil change company<br />

in northeast ohio. In december 2007<br />

he introduced the lube Stop Sustainability<br />

Program with the goal <strong>of</strong> creating<br />

positive ecological impacts. he has<br />

reduced expenses at the operation by<br />

hundreds <strong>of</strong> thousands <strong>of</strong> dollars and<br />

garnered several industry accolades for<br />

innovation and excellence in business.<br />

A year after the program’s launch,<br />

lube Stop received the Award for<br />

Excellence in Environmental Stewardship<br />

from ohio Gov. Ted Strickland.<br />

The company has been recognized by<br />

Crain’s Cleveland <strong>Business</strong>, Inside<br />

<strong>Business</strong>, Smart <strong>Business</strong>, and National<br />

Oil & Lube News, among others.<br />

Craig Cooper, BBA ’06, recently was sworn<br />

in as a new lawyer at the Mason County<br />

courthouse in Ludington, Mich. Craig is a<br />

third-generation graduate <strong>of</strong> the Michigan<br />

State <strong>University</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Law. He will<br />

be working for Plante & Moran PLLC in<br />

Auburn Hills, Mich., an employee benefits<br />

consulting group. He has worked as a legal<br />

intern at Carmen & Muss PLLC and as<br />

a legal extern in the 51st Circuit Court in<br />

Mason and Lake counties.<br />
