“Hav<strong>in</strong>g an organization like <strong>Chewonki</strong> come <strong>in</strong> and do <strong>the</strong><br />
monitor<strong>in</strong>g and weave that <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> education is a tremendous<br />
benefit,” says Catena. “We work with a whole range of organizations<br />
and municipalities, and hav<strong>in</strong>g one that is here and will<br />
be <strong>in</strong>volved at <strong>the</strong> site from a monitor<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>t of view is just<br />
tremendous. We don’t get that a lot.”<br />
Graber is enthusiastic too: “What a fantastic liv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
classroom out here! <strong>The</strong>re are so many th<strong>in</strong>gs for students to<br />
look at, from macro-<strong>in</strong>vertebrates that live <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> river bed, to<br />
migratory and non-migratory fish and how populations will<br />
change when you convert a pond back to its native river<br />
habitat.” Graber sees great value <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g students and<br />
neighbors <strong>in</strong> this project. “We were excited to get <strong>in</strong>volved<br />
with this project, and one of <strong>the</strong> th<strong>in</strong>gs that appealed to us was<br />
fisheries po<strong>in</strong>t of view that helps <strong>the</strong> species <strong>the</strong>mselves, but <strong>the</strong> long-term educational possibilities <strong>Chewonki</strong> is <strong>in</strong>tend<strong>in</strong>g<br />
