Time to choose my words wisely because 'That bitch ain't meeting my kid' just
doesn't seem quite right.
"Well, then you need to be honest with her. If you're not ready for that step, don't
take it. And uh . . ." choose wisely,I remind myself, and then take a deep breath.
"Not to try and pull rank here, but I don't want her being around EJ unless you're
sure about your relationship. We pinky swore on that shit."
He smirks a little. "Yes, I remember."
When Edward and I decided to stay in the same apartment—we had been living
together long before we conceived EJ—and do the family thing as best as possible,
there weren't many ground rules set in place. Well many is a bit much. In truth there
was only one. We weren't going to bring just anyone around our baby. Up until that
moment, we had both been freely dating who we wanted but that all came to an end.
Edward's mom had a revolving door in their house and he knew first hand how that
messed with kids' heads. He didn't want that example set for his son.
We had that same discussion about three months ago or so, when we started dating
again. That doesn't seem like that long ago. So I'm not really jumping for joy at
Katelyn trying to insert herself, and him seemingly about to let her if he isn't sure
about what the hell's going on.
Without thinking about it, I find myself getting pretty annoyed and angry at him.
"On second thought." That's never a good way to start a conversation by the way.
"I'm thinking I'm not okay with it at all."
"Not okay with?"
My nose scrunches up, as I answer, "With Katelyn meeting my son."
"Excuse me?" Whoa, harsh tone alert.
"Do you think the coast is clear?" I whisper to EJ. "Daddy's not really my friend right
now, and I don't want to fight this weekend. Do you know what this weekend is?
What tomorrow is?" I smile. "It's your birthday."
I get a toothy and drooly grin in response, as well as some baby talk. "Birfway."
"Close." I chuckle, then sigh.
