weekend. Unless you count tonight, but Victoria's totally cool with her staying at
Alice's."
"That's really good!"
With a loll in the conversation, Jasper speaks back up, saying something to James
and reminds me he's here, hiding in the shade with us while the others are braving
the sun and entertaining the kids, a.k.a trying their best to tire them out. Tonight
we're all going out for my mom's birthday and thought we'd do the babysitter a favor
by making sure all the kids were too exhausted to give her any issues.
"How 'bout you?" James asks, once he and Jasper are done discussing . . .
whatever it is they were discussing. I tuned it out once I heard the word 'work'. "How
are things with you and Baby Daddy?"
I sigh and look over at him pushing EJ on the swing.
Before I answer, I think back to the cinnamon bun icing incident when Edward swore
he 'knew what I was doing'. He didn't elaborate, and after kissing the side of my ear,
he had sauntered off a little smugly. I wish he had, though—elaborate that is—
because over the next few weeks it was clear I, myself, had absolutely no clue what
I was doing.
The flirting—if that's what you wanna call it—was excessive. And not just on my
side, but his as well. His more so, if I'm being honest. It was 'baby' this and 'beautiful'
that. And his face had a permanent smirk and wink in place for me.
Also, my amateur-hour-bending-in-front-of-the-stove in the morning's stunt had
nothing on his walking around the house shirtless, in just a towel, or on one
occasion naked as the day he was born—claiming he didn't know I was home. I saw
the glint in his eyes, though.
Being naturally flirty and playful people had me wondering if I was just imagining it
all. Wishful thinking perhaps? I'm not sure.
As if sensing my gaze fixated on him, Edward looks up. We lock eyes for a second
before he winks and offers a small wave.
Wiggling my fingers at him, I look back at James, as well as Jasper, who seems to
be interested in my answer as well. All I come up with though, is, "Good question."
