"How about now?"
My eyes snap open when I feel him press a kiss to my forehead. He's done this
millions of times, but this time he lingers—leaving kiss after kiss to the area.
My mouth falls open. The look in his eyes, I've seen it before, several times. But the
time that sticks in my head the most is the weekend things lead to . . .
"Ma!"
"Hey, baby boy." I smile down, stepping away from Edward and quickly picking him
up before the curling iron can inflict third degree burns on him. "I was just thinking
about you."
"I really like that shade of purple on you," Edward tells me, and I have to literally lean
against the counter as déjà vu hits me and memories assault my brain.
"Happy Birthday!" I squealed, launching myself at Edward, causing him to chuckle.
"Bella, are you drunk? You've told me 'happy birthday' like three times already
tonight."
"Oh! Well, congratulations!" I shouted.
This time I'm rewarded with a smirk, a wink, and a quiet, "Thanks, sweetheart. You
too."
I gasped and my heart fluttered a little, but I pushed it down, not sure why. "We
graduated! Can you believe it?" I danced a little in place, grabbing his arm and
spinning myself around under it. "I'm almost gonna miss Professor Justice's droning
on and on," I tried to say seriously, but we both cracked up. "Okay, that's clearly a
lie."
"Hey, she's not too bad. She did work at getting you that internship." At that we both
frowned. "Bella, I think you should take it. I mean I'll miss you, we'll all miss you, of
course, but—"
I had to interrupt him. The thought of being away from my family—from him—for a
year, immediately bringing tears to my eyes. "Let's talk about something else.
Please."
