<strong>Iberia</strong> and British Airways join their cargo business<br />

Tras la fusión <strong>de</strong> <strong>Iberia</strong> y British Airways,<br />

las operaciones <strong>de</strong> carga <strong>de</strong><br />

ambas compañías serán dirigidas como<br />

una sola unidad <strong>de</strong> negocio, que reportará<br />

a Internation<strong>al</strong> Airlines Group<br />

(IAG), el holding resultante <strong>de</strong> la fusión,<br />

aunque ambas compañías mantendrán<br />

sus marcas actu<strong>al</strong>es.<br />

El negocio conjunto se situará entre<br />

las diez mayores compañías aéreas <strong>de</strong><br />

el Ministerio <strong>de</strong> Fomento, Airbus y la empresa estat<strong>al</strong> Senasa<br />

fi rmaron el 30 <strong>de</strong> marzo un acuerdo para poner en marcha un proyecto<br />

que permita la producción y uso sostenible <strong>de</strong> biocombustibles para uso<br />

en aviación. El acuerdo se fi rmó en el marco <strong>de</strong> las jornadas Aerodays<br />

2011, que se celebraron en Madrid <strong>de</strong>l 30 <strong>de</strong> marzo <strong>al</strong> 1 <strong>de</strong> abril.<br />

El objetivo <strong>de</strong>l acuerdo es promover y apoyar las iniciativas que permitan<br />

<strong>de</strong>sarrollar una ca<strong>de</strong>na completa <strong>de</strong> producción <strong>de</strong> biocombustibles<br />

para la aviación española. Esta iniciativa ha sido li<strong>de</strong>rada por la Agencia<br />

Estat<strong>al</strong> <strong>de</strong> Seguridad Aérea (AESA), Senasa y el Observatorio <strong>de</strong> Sostenibilidad<br />

en Aviación (OBSA). El Ministerio <strong>de</strong> Medio Ambiente y Medio<br />

Rur<strong>al</strong> y Marino, el Ministerio <strong>de</strong> industria, a través <strong>de</strong>l IADE (Instituto<br />

para la Diversifi cación y el Ahorro <strong>de</strong> la Energía), y las empresas privadas<br />

<strong>de</strong>l sector energético, aeronáutica, logística y agrícolas, están cooperando<br />

con el Ministerio <strong>de</strong> Fomento en el <strong>de</strong>sarrollo <strong>de</strong> la iniciativa.<br />

30 March, <strong>Iberia</strong>, the Ministry of Public Works, Airbus and the<br />

Senasa state-owned company launched a project to produce bio<br />

combustibles for use in aviation. <strong>The</strong> agreement was signed during<br />

Aerodays 2011, that was held in Madrid <strong>from</strong> 30 March to 1 April.<br />

<strong>The</strong> agreement seeks to promote and support the <strong>de</strong>velopment of a<br />

complete production chain of renewable bio combustibles for Spanish<br />

BA World Cargo e <strong>Iberia</strong> Cargo respectivamente.<br />

Con la creación <strong>de</strong> una única<br />

unidad <strong>de</strong> negocio los clientes se benefi<br />

ciarán <strong>de</strong> un catálogo integrado <strong>de</strong><br />

productos y una red más amplia con un<br />

único punto <strong>de</strong> contacto <strong>de</strong> ventas en<br />

cada mercado.<br />

El acuerdo combina la fort<strong>al</strong>eza <strong>de</strong><br />

la red <strong>de</strong> vuelos <strong>de</strong> British en Norte<br />

América, África y Asia con la <strong>de</strong> <strong>Iberia</strong><br />

en Latinoamérica y la <strong>de</strong>stacada red <strong>de</strong><br />

carga <strong>de</strong> ambas compañías.<br />

Following the merger of <strong>Iberia</strong><br />

and British Airways, the freight<br />

operations of both companies will be<br />

managed as a single business unit. It<br />

will report to Internation<strong>al</strong> Airlines<br />

Group (IAG), the holding company<br />

resulting <strong>from</strong> the merger, <strong>al</strong>though<br />

both companies will maintain their<br />

current names.<br />

<strong>The</strong> new joint air freight business<br />

will be among the ten largest in the<br />

world, hea<strong>de</strong>d by Steve Gunning as<br />

director gener<strong>al</strong> and Ignacio Díez<br />

Barturen as <strong>de</strong>puty director gener<strong>al</strong>.<br />

Until now they were the top offi cers<br />

of BA World Cargo and <strong>Iberia</strong> Cargo,<br />

respectively. With the creation of<br />

this single business operation, clients<br />

will enjoy an integrated cat<strong>al</strong>ogue<br />

of services and a large network, with<br />

a single s<strong>al</strong>es contact point in each<br />

market.<br />

<strong>The</strong> agreement combines the<br />

strength of the British Airways<br />

network in North America, Africa and<br />

Asia with <strong>Iberia</strong>’s operation in Latin<br />

America and the outstanding cargo<br />

operation of both companies.<br />
