Forty-nine percent (49%) considered that the Commission on SDH could boost efforts of civil
society to achieve the right to health. Another twenty-six percent (26%) of the organizations say
they are already working to this end. Twenty-seven percent (27%) responded that until now they
had no idea the Commission existed. And seven percent (7%) do not believe that the Commission
could boost their efforts to achieve the right to health. Although a majority of the civil society
organizations said they felt that the Commission could indeed boost their efforts to achieve the
right to health, the majority also commented that this objective could only be attained after
developing certain factors that are mentioned below.
A key thread in the comments was the need to incorporate the SDH perspective in regional
agencies, disseminate it and train social actors, such as the Commission on the Social
Determinants of Health, in order to implement health and social policies to reduce inequity and
achieve globalization of the SDH.
Other factors that were noted:
a. Policies to be implemented:
• To support gender perspectives and those of Marginalized populations such as
gypsies
• improved health conditions
b. Emphasize the results of the SDH Commission with a methodological follow-up
c. Give civil society organizations greater and freer participation in the SDH Commission
initiative
d. Obtain more financial resources
e. Establish linkages
f. Accept criticism by the Commission and incorporate the perspective of those excluded
and marginalized by society
g. Improve the efficiency, quality, and transparency of service delivery, which is mentioned
as a direct method for increasing the number of families with better education and health
h. Establish opportunities for dialogue with governments and society as a whole to focus on
and boost these policies in the countries
