Givón (2001: 40 vol.II) establishes the ev<strong>en</strong>t integration and<br />
clause union principle as follows: ¨The strongest is the semantic<br />
bond betwe<strong>en</strong> the two ev<strong>en</strong>ts, the more ext<strong>en</strong>sive will be<br />
the syntactic integration of the two clauses into a single<br />
though complex clause.¨ According to Givón, the manipulative<br />
and the modality verbs that take <strong>de</strong>p<strong>en</strong><strong>de</strong>nt clauses share<br />
the same segm<strong>en</strong>t at the top of the morphosyntactic and semantic<br />
integration scales. In g<strong>en</strong>eral terms, the scale in Warihío<br />
follows Givón’s predictions. However, there is a very important<br />
counterexample; one of the types of complex s<strong>en</strong>t<strong>en</strong>-<br />
