Student/Parent Conference 5. Loss of Privileges 6. Suspension 7. Expulsion *Actions may not occur in the above mentioned order depending upon the situation. DETENTIONS Student may be detained after school for disciplinary and counseling purposes. When this is necessary, a one (1) day (or more) notice will be given in order that the parents may make arrangements for student’s transportation. The staff member issuing the notice will establish the length of time for detention. SUSPENSIONS Students may be referred to the office for counseling or misbehavior. Students who are repeatedly sent to the Principal’s office for discipline may receive an In-School suspension or an Out of School suspension. When a student exhibits gross disobedience or misconduct, suspensions will be enforced for a period of up to ten (10) days. (Infractions that can result in suspension can be located under the Acts of Misconduct and Consequences section.) EXPULSIONS When a student commits a serious act of misconduct or repeated instances of misconduct a referral for an expulsion hearing will be made. A student can be expelled for a period of up to two years if appropriate procedures are followed. BUS CONDUCT As parents, you are an important part of the total safety program for your child. Children need to be safe riders when they are on the bus. Please help us reinforce the stated rules to ensure the safety of all students. Students must ride their assigned bus to and from school. If for any reason your child is not to ride the bus, please send a note with your child in the morning. Page8
RIDER RULES Stay seated with your back against the seat while the bus is moving. Keep your head, arms, and personal belongings inside the bus and out of the aisles. Boisterous behavior is not permitted (Example: Throwing objects, damaging bus property, littering, aggressive behavior, yelling or making other loud noises). Students will only be allowed to ride their assigned bus. If a student must go to another location, parents must provide the transportation. Obey all rules given by driver, at all times. Sit in assigned seat and wear seatbelt at all times. No eating, drinking, or garbage on the bus. Please make sure that your child does the following when following bus safety tips: Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival of the bus. Stay out of the street and don’t engage in horseplay while waiting. Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before getting on and off the bus. Don’t walk in the driver’s “blind spot” – the area from the front of the bus to about 10 feet in front of the bus. CONSEQUENCES 1 st Referral Letter sent home and phone call to parent and child meets with the principal. 2 nd Referral Letter sent home to parent and student receives a school consequence. 3 rd Referral Student receives a one (1) day bus suspension. Parents must provide transportation to and from school. 4 th Referral Student receives three (3) days bus suspension. Parents must provide transportation to and from school. 5 th Referral Student receives five (5) days bus suspension and a parent conference. Parents must provide transportation to and from school. 6 th Referral Student is suspended from the bus; subject to cancellation of bus service. Parents must provide transportation to and from school. * Please note that serious offenses will result in an “immediate suspension” from the bus. Parents must provide transportation to and from school. STUDENT TRANSPORTATION (OTHER THAN BUS) All car riders are asked to follow safety rules and drop/pick up students on time. For safety reasons we ask that you please drop students of on the Hobbs street ramp. GETTING TO AND FROM SCHOOL SAFELY To ensure maximum safety for all students; parents are encouraged to review common safety rules for their children who walk to and from school.
