Mots-clés : changement d’usage des terres, boisement, reboisement, Mécanisme dedéveloppement propre, climat, Brésil.ABSTRACTVARIATION IN ORGANIC CARBONSTOCKS IN SOILS AFTER FORESTPLANTING: META-ANALYSIS ATTEMPTCOVERING SEVERAL SITUATIONSIN LATIN AMERICASoils make up the largest carbon reservoir, since they contain twice as much carbonas the atmosphere and almost three timesas much as the biomass of aerial and rootsystems. Even a slight variation in soilcarbon stocks can have significant consequencesfor atmospheric CO 2concentrations.The aim of this study is to investigate theinfluence of forest planting in Latin Americaon organic carbon stocks in soils (Cos).A meta-analysis of 21 records in the bibliographyshows that converting “cerrado”savannah or natural growing forest intoplantations lowers the amount of Cos inthe first twenty centimetre (respectively-6.09 ±2.19 et -16.5 ±4.63 kgC/m 2 ) and.Conversely, increasing the density of agroforests, the amount of Cos in the first twentycentimetre (+1.29 ±1.02 kgC/m 2 ). Convertingpasture lands into forest plantations doesnot systematically induce a significant effecton Cos. The option of using meta-analysisand modelling has proved to be of particularinterest in scientific disciplines where thenecessary data are scarce as well as costly.
