En Chile existen cerca de 6.300 apicultores registrados
con 985.466 colmenas, de ellos 4.000 son pequeños
agricultores apoyados por el Ministerio de Agricultura a
través del Instituto de Desarrollo Agropecuario (INDAP).
La gran mayoría se dedica a la producción de miel (98%),
a la polinización (26%) y a la venta de material vivo (16%).
Para el director nacional de INDAP, Carlos Recondo,“la
apicultura, al igual que otras actividades productivas, pasa
por ciclos en que enfrenta dificultades, y la mejor forma
de solucionar los problemas es en unidad. Es así que la
importancia de la apicultura y el trabajo que desarrollan
los pequeños apicultores, quienes con producciones de
calidad han podido acercarse a los mercados externos y
mostrar que son capaces de exportar sus productos”.
Asimismo, mediante los programas de fomento de INDAP,
se les están entregando capacitación, asesoría técnica
e inversiones para agregar valor a la miel. En Chile, se
consumen casi 170 gramos de miel al año per cápita. Este
número, comparado con otros países, como Alemania por
ejemplo, donde se consumen 3 kilos, es una cantidad muy
baja. Ello ha llevado a variar los formatos de venta para
hacerlos más atractivos y accesibles al comercio.
Hoy sus productos están siendo comercializados por INDAP
en las Tiendas Mundo Rural, Mercados Campesinos y por
el Sistema de Compras Públicas, herramientas creadas
por esa institución para favorecer la venta de productos
de la Agricultura Familiar Campesina hacia el público

In Chile there are about 6,300 beekeepers registered
with 985,466 hives, of which 4,000 are small farmers
supported by the Ministry of Agriculture through the
Institute of Agricultural Development (INDAP). The vast
majority is dedicated to the production of honey (98%),
to pollination (26%) and to the sale of living material
(16%).
For the national director of INDAP, Carlos Recondo,
“beekeeping, like other productive activities, goes
through cycles in which it faces difficulties, and the
best way to solve the problems is united. This is the
importance of beekeeping and the work carried out by
small beekeepers, who with quality productions have
been able to approach external markets and show that
they are able to export their products. ”
Likewise, through the promotion programs of INDAP,
they are being given training, technical advice and
investments to add value to honey. In Chile, almost
170 gr.(0,3 pounds) of honey are consumed per year
per capita. This number, compared to other countries,
like Germany for example, where 3 kilos (6,6 pounds)
are consumed, is a very low amount. This has led to
varying sales formats to make them more attractive
and accessible to consumers.
Today its products are being marketed by INDAP in
Mundo Rural Stores, Farmers Markets and the Public
Procurement System, tools created by that institution
to favor the sale of rural family agricultural products
to the final consumer without intermediaries. To learn
