INSTALLATION INSTALLATION DIRECT EXPANSION UNITS The air-conditioner is normally installed within the environment that requires cooling; the unit (down flow unit) can be positioned directly onto a raised floor, on condition that the floor can bear the weight of the unit in operation. On the other hand, a base frame can be used, with or without airflow conveyor; this allows all the weight to sit on the real floor, and so avoiding overloading and transmitting vibrations to the raised floor. The base frame not only makes installation simpler, but also avoids having to make supplementary holes in the floor for cables, piping, etc., and also maintenance becomes easier since one removes the floor panels around the air-conditioner for access. If the base frame is not used. Then the edge of the machine will be positioned on the raised floor itself, and so it is necessary to leave enough floors for the unit to sit on (see fig. 3, P and Q are the dimensions of the air-conditioner). - The air-conditioner must be positioned so that the return air is not obstructed in any way and so that it is easy to inspect the units. The free area to be left is minimum 60-70 cm. (see fig. 4). The outdoor unit for configurations 2 - 4 - 6 must be positioned outdoors and, depending on the space available, the distance between it and the indoor unit must be as short as possible. It must be installed in a position that is easily accessible and must have a free area all around for maintenance and for air intake of at least 50 cm. Furthermore, there must not be any obstacle to the air leaving the condenser or condensing unit for at least 100 cm. The airflow must not be directed towards the air intake of any other air-cooled units. For remote condensers (configuration 2), shock absorber and silencer should be installed by the contractor between compressor and condenser (see fig. 5). For condensing units (configuration 4), contractor should install oil-trap every 2/3 metres in height and incline pipeline by minimum 1% (see fig. 6). Further information, dimensions and weights are available in the relevant “Technical Handbook” for the outdoor units. The outdoor unit for configuration 3 must be easily accessible for maintenance, but must not be directly exposed to the elements, and should be protected from rain and frost. 05.08 Ref.200989 Rev.100 33
