Sir Christopher Audland's <strong>European</strong> career began in 1950 when he worked in Germany as British negotiator at one of the Bonn<br />

conventions. His next diplomatic post was as UK Deputy Permenant Representative to the Council of Europe at Strasbourg. In the1960's<br />

he was in the British team for the Heath negotiations. When Britain joined the Community in 1973 he became an official of the <strong>European</strong><br />

Community. For a period of nine years he served as Deputy Secretary-General of the Commission. He completed his Commission career<br />

by holding the post of Director-General for Energy for 5 years.<br />
