Sir Christopher Audland's European career began in 1950 when he worked in Germany as British negotiator at one of the Bonn
conventions. His next diplomatic post was as UK Deputy Permenant Representative to the Council of Europe at Strasbourg. In the1960's
he was in the British team for the Heath negotiations. When Britain joined the Community in 1973 he became an official of the European
Community. For a period of nine years he served as Deputy Secretary-General of the Commission. He completed his Commission career
by holding the post of Director-General for Energy for 5 years.
