La particularité de la galerie tient à la personnalité de Jean Brolly.
Jean Brolly (né en 1941) est un amateur d’art contemporain qui a toujours
cherché à entretenir des relations très étroites avec les artistes qu’il estime
et qui lui ont accordé leur amitié en retour. Sa collection reflète l’histoire
de ses rencontres. Au moment de sa retraite, il décide d’ouvrir une galerie
afin de disposer d’un outil de diffusion tourné vers le public et dépasser
ainsi le cercle restreint des relations privées. La galerie a ouvert ses portes
en janvier 2002. Elle est située dans le quartier du Marais, non loin du Centre
Georges Pompidou et occupe un espace sous verrière de 150 m 2 .
Le programme artistique de la galerie repose sur 2 catégories d’artistes –
d’une part, les artistes avec lesquels Jean Brolly a des relations anciennes :
Bernard Aubertin, Alan Charlton, François Morellet, Pierre Savatier, David
Tremlett, Felice Varini, Michel Verjux – d’autre part des jeunes artistes
qui ont pour la plupart, fait leur première exposition personnelle
à la galerie : Adam Adach, Nicolas Chardon, Mathieu Cherkit, Tatjana Doll,
Rémy Hysbergue, Jan Kämmerling, Benjamin Swaim. Photographie, peinture,
sculpture vidéo, installation, toutes les formes artistiques se trouvent
représentées et depuis sa création, elle participe régulièrement
à des foires internationales à Paris et à l’étranger.
The gallery was created in November 2001 by Jean Brolly and his first
exhibition opened on january 2002 with Claude Rutault – a famous french
artist. The gallery is located in “Le Marais”, an ideal place, close
to Musée National d’Art Moderne, the Pompidou Museum, in Paris. The space
on the ground floor occupies 180 m 2 and 40 m 2 at the first floor.
Jean Brolly (born in 1941) is a contemporary art lover which always sought
to maintain the very close relations with the artists that he estimates
and which granted their friendship in return to him. His collection reflects
the history of its meetings. At the time of his retirement, he decides to open
a gallery in order to have a tool for diffusion turned towards the public
and to thus exceed the restricted circle of the private relations. The artistic
program of the gallery rests on 2 categories of artists - on the one hand,
the artists with whom Jean Brolly has old relations : Bernard Aubertin,
Alan Charlton, François Morellet, Sarkis, Pierre Savatier, David Tremlett,
Felice Varini, Michel Verjux - in addition young artists who have for
the majority makes their first personal exhibition to the gallery : Adam Adach,
Nicolas Chardon, Mathieu Cherkit, Tatjana Doll, Rémy Hysbergue, Jan
Kämmerling, Benjamin Swaim. Since the creation of the gallery, photographs,
painting, video, sculpture, installation, all the artistic forms are represented
- and takes part regularly in international fairs in Paris and abroad.
