Christine Lapointe Contrôleure — Mine Canadian Malartic Controller — Canadian Malartic Mine Bachelière en Sciences comptables de l’Université du Québec en Abitibi- Témiscamingue, Christine Lapointe possède une solide expérience en gestion financière dans le domaine minier. Issue d’une famille de mineurs, Christine a toujours travaillé dans ce secteur dont les mines Bousquet, Raglan, Richmont et Ressources Breakwater où elle a su démontrer son expertise en analyse financière, budgétaire et l’implantation de programmes de suivi et de contrôle. Arrivée chez Osisko à la fin du mois d’octobre 2010, elle doit mettre sur pied, avec ses collègues, le service de comptabilité et des finances de la mine Canadian Malartic pour le début de l’année 2011. Ce défi ne l’intimide pas, mais plutôt la motive à y mettre les bouchées doubles pour y arriver. Les données financières font partie intégrante de son univers, même dans ses temps libres. Christine représente fièrement l’entreprise à titre de membre du conseil d’administration et de trésorière du Festival des guitares du monde en Abitibi- Témiscamingue, dont le Fonds Essor Malartic Osisko (FEMO) est un important partenaire. Elle entend d’ailleurs faire une longue carrière au sein d’Osisko. « Je me vois, un jour, occuper un poste de directrice administrative lorsqu’une nouvelle mine d’Osisko démarrera. » With a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Université du Québec en Abitibi- Témiscamingue, Christine Lapointe possesses a solid background in financial management applied to the mining industry. «Il ne faut pas avoir peur de prendre sa place. » “A woman should not be afraid to make her mark.” Born to a family of miners, Christine has always worked in the sector, notably at the Bousquet, Raglan, Richmont and Breakwater Resources mines where she demonstrated her expertise in financial analysis and budgeting as well as her ability to create financial monitoring and control programs. Having arrived at Osisko in late October 2010, she was asked to set up the accounting and finance department for the Canadian Malartic mine by early 2011. Far from being intimidated by this big order, she was motivated and eager to work twice as hard to meet the deadline. Analyzing financial data is an integral part of Christine’s world, even during her free time. Christine is a proud board member and treasurer of the Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi- Témiscamingue, in which the Fonds Essor Malartic Osisko (FEMO) is an important partner. She expects to have a long career at Osisko. “I can see myself one day acting as Administrative Director when Osisko starts a new mine.” 30
Linda Lavigne Opératrice, Équipements auxiliaires — Mine Canadian Malartic Operator, Auxiliary Equipment — Canadian Malartic Mine Linda Lavigne aime beaucoup son poste. Elle s’estime privilégiée d’avoir trouvé chez Osisko, à sa première expérience dans l’industrie minière, un milieu et des défis qui correspondent à ses attentes et à ses aspirations. À cet égard, elle doit une fière chandelle à son conjoint, qui était déjà au service de la mine et qui l’encourage à se diriger dans cette voie. Jusqu’alors, Linda avait travaillé comme cuisinière dans une résidence pour aînés et une école secondaire. Voulant améliorer sa situation financière, elle prend une décision déterminante : retourner aux études, à 40 ans. Motivée par son conjoint, elle s’inscrit à un programme de formation offert en collaboration avec Osisko. Elle termine d’abord son cours secondaire, puis obtient un diplôme d’études professionnelles en voirie forestière, ce qui lui ouvre les portes d’Osisko. Son emploi consiste à opérer une niveleuse. Très polyvalente, Linda effectue diverses tâches de construction et d’entretien reliées aux opérations (digues, routes, travaux de drainage, écaillage, etc…). C’est un métier parfois dur et épuisant, mais toujours stimulant et enrichissant, surtout quand on fait partie d’une équipe soudée. « Un collègue assigné au même équipement que moi m’a beaucoup soutenu, mentionne Linda. Très patient, il m’a pris sous son aile et m’a aidé à me familiariser avec ce nouvel environnement, qui me stressait au début, car c’était du jamais vu. » Reconnaissante de cet appui, Linda met les bouchées doubles afin de ne jamais décevoir son patron ou ses collègues. Elle veut aussi, du coup, montrer qu’une femme peut faire aussi bien qu’un homme dans cette industrie encore majoritairement masculine. Visiblement, elle y est parvenue grâce à sa persévérance et son dynamisme. «J’adore mon ouvrage. Je suis fière de moi car conduire des équipements lourds comme je le fais, il n’y a rien de plus beau ! » “I love my job. I am proud to be able to operate such large equipment; there’s nothing more exciting!” Linda Lavigne loves her job. She sees herself as lucky to have joined Osisko, which marked her first experience in the mining industry, an industry that melds well with her expectations as well as her ambitions. It would seem she owes a word of thanks to her husband, who motivated her to seize the opportunity. Up until that point in her life, Linda had worked as a cook in a senior home and a high school. Wanting to improve her own financial situation, she decided to return to school. With her husband’s encouragement, she enrolled in a training program offered in collaboration with Osisko. She earned her high school degree and then went on to earn a Professional Training Diploma in Forestry, which opened the door for her at Osisko. Her current work involves operating a mining grader, a very versatile machine. Linda performs various construction and maintenance tasks related to operations (dams, roads, drainage work, scaling, etc.). It is a hard and sometimes exhausting job, but always challenging and rewarding, especially when part of a cohesive team. “A colleague of mine, who was assigned to the same equipment, has been particularly supportive”, recalls Linda. “Very patiently, he took me under his wing and helped me become familiar with my environment, which was new to me and stressful at first.” Motivated by his support, Linda gave 110% to make sure she never let down her boss or colleagues. She also wanted to demonstrate that women can do as well as men in this industry, which is still predominantly male. Thanks to her perseverance and dynamism, she has proven just that. 31
