La phase de démarrage de la mine Canadian Malartic a laissé une marque
indélébile dans le cœur et dans l’esprit de ses acteurs. Tous qualifient cette
période d’exaltante, d’enrichissante, de formatrice. Même ceux qui n’étaient pas
des employés d’Osisko, comme Valérie Perron.
Jeune diplômée en génie mécanique, orientation Innovation technologique de
l’École Polytechnique de Montréal, Valérie a participé à l’ingénierie de l’usine de
Canadian Malartic pour le compte de la firme BBA. Elle travaille également sur le
site pendant un an dans un rôle de soutien technique à la construction. « C’était
incroyable de faire partie d’une si petite équipe d’ingénierie, pour un aussi grand
projet ! Il y avait une telle énergie que nous voulions, nous aussi, mettre la main à la
pâte pour contribuer à la réalisation de ce beau projet. »
Ce mandat l’amène à collaborer étroitement avec les différents intervenants
(entrepreneurs, surintendants de toutes les disciplines, responsables des opérations,
etc.). Visiblement satisfaite de son apport, Osisko lui offre en 2011 un poste
d’ingénieure mécanique au siège social, où elle s’occupe principalement de projets
de capitaux de la phase ingénierie et achat d’équipements jusqu’à la phase de mise
en service où l’on remet le projet au groupe d’opérateurs.
Récipiendaire pendant trois ans de la bourse Pratt & Whitney pour ses résultats
scolaires et sa personnalité, Valérie reste à l’affût des progrès techniques en
participant aux activités du Canadian Mineral Processors et au Réseau « Premières en
Affaires » sur le leadership féminin.

The start-up phase of the Canadian Malartic mine left an indelible mark in the hearts and
minds of those involved, who describe that phase as an exciting and rewarding time that
provided a real opportunity for learning. This sentiment even extends to those who were not
Osisko employees at the time, such as Valérie Perron.
As a young graduate of the Mechanical Engineering program at École Polytechnique in Montreal,
with a concentration in Innovation and Technology, Valerie was involved in the engineering phase
of Canadian Malartic’s mill as an employee of the firm BBA. She also administrated technical
support during the construction phase of the project. “It was amazing to be part of such a small
engineering team on such a big project! The energy was so incredible, we wanted to get our hands
dirty too and be completely involved in making this project come to life.”
This job led her to work closely with contractors, superintendents of all disciplines, operations
managers and so on. Obviously satisfied with her contribution, Osisko offered her a job
as Mechanical Engineer at company headquarters in 2011. Her main reponsibility is the
engineering portion of capital projects and the purchase of equipment, until the start up phase of
the mine at which point the task is handed over to the operations team.
A three year recipient of a Pratt & Whitney’s scholarship for academic excellence and outstanding
personal character, Valerie remains abreast of technical developments by participating in
activities organized by the Canadian Mineral Processors Association and « Premières en Affaires »,
an association advocating female leadership.
