Tout destinait Geneviève Nadeau à une carrière dans le secteur minier. En
plus d’être une mineure de troisième génération, elle affectionne la région
abitibienne.
Geneviève vibre au diapason de l’industrie minière depuis sa naissance, puisque son
grand-père, son père et son oncle l’ont précédée dans cette voie. Elle est envoûtée
par les échos qui lui parviennent du sous-sol québécois. « Mon père m’a grandement
inspirée », confie-t-elle. « Il me racontait ses journées de travail et l’atmosphère qui
y régnait me captivait ». Sans surprise, elle statue très jeune qu’elle deviendrait
mineure. Ne lui reste qu’à préciser quel métier elle exercerait exactement.
Dès son entrée à Osisko, Geneviève mord à pleines dents dans sa nouvelle vie
professionnelle. Elle mène deux activités de front : un travail à la carothèque et
des études en traitement de minerai, dans le cadre d’un programme offert en
collaboration avec l’entreprise. Une fois son diplôme obtenu, elle devient tour à
tour aide-opératrice puis opératrice de broyeur. Elle se sent fière d’avoir participé au
démarrage d’une usine impressionnante par son gigantisme et accepte volontiers
tous les défis qu’on lui propose.
Dans tout ce qu’elle entreprend, Geneviève se fait un honneur de perpétuer la
tradition familiale. Elle entend ainsi continuer de foncer et de communiquer ses
idées, à l’instar des pionnières de l’industrie, à qui elle voue le plus grand respect.
It seems only fair to say that Geneviève Nadeau was destined to have a career in the mining
industry. Besides being the third generation of a mining family, she adores her homeland of
Abitibi.

Born to a family with a grandfather, father and uncle employed in the sector, Geneviève has always
had an affinity for the mining industry and she is drawn to Québec’s rich mining history. “My father
inspired me”, she explains. “He used to tell me about his work day and the work atmosphere and it
all seemed so exciting.” She vowed at a young age that she too would work in the mining industry.
The only thing that remained was to figure out what job she would take.
Upon her arrival at Osisko, Geneviève jumped feet first into her new professional role. She took on
two projects simultaneously — core shack work and ore processing studies — as part of a program
on which Osisko was collaborating. Once she graduated, she became an Operator’s Aide and then
Grinding Operator at the mill. She feels proud to be involved in the start-up of this enormous and
impressive mine, and continues to enthusiastically accept every new challenge.
For Geneviève, it is an honor to carry on the family tradition. She promises to keep pushing
boundaries and expressing her ideas, like other pioneers of the industry, for whom she has the
utmost respect.
