DEATH OF MARIO TAVELLI
As we were finalizing this Bulletin we learned the sad news of the death in Geneva on 23 February 2009 of
our friend and colleague, Mario Tavelli, after a long and difficult illness.
After retiring from the ILO, where he had for many years been a pillar of the Distribution Section, in 1995
Mario took over from Pierre Boulas as Secretary of the ILO Section of Former Officials, and since 2003 he
has represented the ILO Section on the AAFI-AFICS Committee.
He will be remembered as someone whose smile belied his strong convictions, and his constant endeavours
to protect and improve the interests of ILO retirees, to whom he had devoted his retirement.
We present our sincere condolences to his wife, his family and his friends.
BRITISH PASSPORT SERVICE
We were advised at the end of January by the British Consul General in Geneva of the move on 1 January
2009 from Geneva to Paris of the passport service for British nationals in Switzerland. Since that date,
applications must be posted to the British Embassy in Paris – B.P. 111-08, FR-75363 Paris CEDEX 08. New
passports will hopefully be issued within 2 weeks, and will be returned by courier service.
Additional information is available on http://ukinswitzerland.fco.gov.uk/en. You can also download an
application form on http://ukinfrance.fc.gov.uk/en/passports.
One of our members has placed a petition with No. 10 Downing Street for passport renewal facilities to be
reopened in Switzerland. To sign you should go to http//:petitions.number10.gov.uk/legalrights/ and then type
in the appropriate box Passport Petition Pattinson. There is no need to write in a postal code. Simply tick
“Expatriate”.
