Reflection of Forced Migration (muhadjiroba) in Georgian
press (As of newspapers "Droeba" about Adjara)
Summary
Forced migration was a great tragedy of the population of Adjara in 70-
80-th of XIX century, caused by heavy social-economic heritage of Russian-
Turkish war in 1877-1878. On incomplete data ten thousand people was have
to be evicted on foreign land - in different regions of Turkey.
The process of the forced migration was reflected in different Georgian
and Russian newspapers, amongst which specifically stood out the Georgian
newspaper "Droeba". As of newspaper articles are illuminated reasons of the
forced migration (heavy social-economic position of the population, Moslem
religious fanaticism, propaganda of Moslem influential persons and others),
process of the evicting itself, deterioration of the position of the migrants and
attempts of their return on native land, geographical settling of the migrants,
fight of leading Georgian intellectuals against forced migration.
