Boris Dyakov from Moscow was one of the best 10 singers of the Competizione dell’Opera 2009.
In the last thirteen years the Competizione dell’Opera has
established itself to one of the largest singing competitions
worldwide. It is the only competition that uses the
great repertoire of the Italian opera, beginning with the
delicate tones of Ancient Music to Mozart, Verdi and Puccini
and even reaching into the stylistic diversity of the 20th
century.
In 1996 the competition in Hamburg was originated as
“I Cestelli” Competizione dell’ Opera by Prof. Dr. Hermann
Rauhe, the former president of the University for Music and
Theatre, under the direction of today’s general manager of
the Theater Bremen, Hans-Joachim Frey, in collaboration
with the corporate group Unilever Germany. Since 2001 the
competition has established itself in Dresden and radiates
its cultural importance far beyond the boundaries of the
city on the River Elbe into the whole world.
In 2010 the competition will take place for the 10th time.
Since 1996 nearly 100 finalists from this competition conquered
opera stages around the world. In an exemplary
public-private partnership, companies and many private
patrons have raised more than 2.7 million Euros to support
this Young Artist Program continuously.
While regarding the venues of the auditions, one can tell the
great distance a lot of participants must cover to come to
Dresden. Beginning in March the directors of the competition
will be travelling through Europe, Russia, USA, Asia and
Latin America. In search for outstanding talents the auditions
will be accompanied by high-ranking delegations of
important representatives of culture and business, in order
to establish a worldwide network for cultural exchanges.
Auditions will be held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and
Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and Shanghai

as well as in the metropolises of opera New York, Zurich
and Vienna.
On September 5, 2010 ten finalists will be standing on
one of the most beautiful stages of opera, to be judged by
famous opera and festival directors, singers, important
representatives of media and agencies. Here the young and
talented singers have the opportunity to present themselves
to a unique network, offering them every chance to launch
an international career.
This jury, the attractive special prizes and the final concert
in the Semperoper give the competition a unique quality on
the international competitive stage.
Under the patronage of the Saxon State Minister for Science
and the Fine Arts, Prof. Dr. Dr. Sabine Irene Freifrau von
Schorlemer, the Competizione dell’ Opera is cooperating
with the Saxony State Opera Dresden, Semper Opera House,
the University of Music “Carl Maria von Weber” Dresden,
the University of Arts Bremen, the Central German Broadcasting
and the Theater Bremen.
In 2010 the competition will be run by Competizione
dell’Opera e.V. under the auspices of the FORUM TIBERIUS
– International Forum for Culture and Business Dresden in
collaboration with the Theater Bremen and the International
Forum for Culture Theater Bremen. The semifinal will be
organized at the University of Music “Carl Maria von Weber”
Dresden and Theater Bremen. This is how the idea of promoting
talents will constantly be developed, forming a
cultural bridge over Germany – connecting the two cities
Dresden and Bremen.
