We have shown that children with SDB were sleepier and exhibit
more symptoms of attention- deficit/hyperactivity disorder than
normal children.
Hyperactivity has been proposed to be a child’s way of acting
out daytime sleepiness.
The absence of a strong relation between PSG parameters and
daytime sleepiness and Conners score brings up the possibility
either that we are not measuring the right parameter during
routine PSG.
Measures of subcortical arousal associated with respiratory
events may give better correlations with hyperactivity.
