EPIPHANY CELEBRATIONS
6 JANUARY, FROM 10.30 TO 12.00
At the end of Mass, the “Vecchiarella” singers will
perform songs and folk dances. From 15.30 there
will be a party for local children, young people and
pensioners to celebrate the Befana.
AMELIA
BEFANA ROSSOBLÙ
5 JANUARY, FROM 10.00
The Befana will go for a walk in the town centre
and meet local children in Via della Repubblica
at 16.30.
At 18.00 prizes will be awarded to children from the
local kindergarten and primary school for the best
drawings and stories about the Befana.
6 JANUARY
At 10.00 the Befana will take presents to patients in
the local hospital and to the home for the elderly.
ARRONE
BELL RINGING CELEBRATION
9 DECEMBER, FROM 21.00
The “Gruppo Campanari di Arrone” – Arrone’s bell
ringers – will ring the bells to commemorate the
“Venuta della Madonna”, when the Madonna was
carried by angels over the Valnerina on her way from
the Middle East to Loreto. Traditional bonfi res are lit
to guide her on her way, and the church bells ring all
night to celebrate. This year once again a large bonfi
re will be lit for the occasion in Piazza Garibaldi,
and at 23.00 there will be a “concert of bells”.
ASSISI
CERA UNA VOLTA
FROM 6 TO 9 DECEMBER, TOWN CENTRE
This is the fi rst and only event of its kind in Italy,
dedicated entirely to candles, wax and everything
associated with them. There will be a “light show”
and a market, an area where you can learn more
about candles and wax, and an area with entertainment
and curiosities. Dinner in the local restaurants
will be by candlelight. Together with the master
candle makers, the town of Assisi will attempt to
create a record-breaking candle, the biggest in
the world.

will compete at singing pasquarelle, the
traditional songs that were sung at the New Year to
bring good luck.
