PONTE SUL TEVERE<br />
This enjoyable annual event has been repeated for<br />
more than twenty years and is organised by the<br />
“Canoa Club” in Città di Castello, one of the most<br />
important canoe clubs in Italy. Towards evening, a<br />
group of canoeists, each dressed as Father Christmas<br />
and in an illuminated canoe, makes its way<br />
along the river lit by bonfi res and fi reworks to the<br />
bridge over the River Tiber at Porta San Florido<br />
where a crib is suspended over the water. When they<br />
get out of their canoes, the Father Christmases give<br />
small presents to the waiting children.<br />
THE “PASQUELLA” SINGERS<br />
5 JANUARY, AT 17.00, TOWN CENTRE<br />
In this event, which is organised by the “Società Rionale<br />
Mattonata”, a group of singers accompanied<br />
by an accordionist crosses the town centre singing<br />
a traditional song about the birth of Jesus and the<br />
arrival of the Three Kings. The event recalls the old<br />
<strong>Umbria</strong>n tradition of groups of singers going from<br />
house to house singing “stornelli” and asking for<br />
money, which was later spent on a large feast.<br />
NEW YEAR IN THE TOWN SQUARE<br />
31 DECEMBER, FROM 22.00<br />

A party in the town square to welcome the New<br />
Year with music, local produce and a toast to 2008<br />
at midnight.<br />

The Befana descends from Città di Castello’s tower,<br />
the Torre Civica.<br />

In the town centre visitors fi nd “Le vie dei sapori<br />
di qualità”, exibition and market of local produce,<br />
and “Natale creativo a Corciano”, making cribs<br />
and decorations with local artisans.<br />

FROM 23 DECEMBER TO 6 JANUARY<br />
An exhibition of paintings at the “Centro Piero<br />
Gauli”, a meeting with miners from the local mine,<br />
and a lecture about the Church of Santa Vittorina,<br />
currently undergoing restoration.<br />
