Quando corpus morietur,
fac, ut animae donetur,
paradisi gloria.
Amen.
When my body perishes
grant that my soul may receive
the glory of paradise.
Amen.
Translation: Gery Bramall
5 3. Laudi alla Vergine Maria
Vergine madre, figlia del tuo Figlio,
Umile ed alta più che creatura,
Termine fisso d’eterno consiglio.
3. The Beatific Vision (St Bernard’s Prayer)
Virgin Mother, daughter of thy Son,
humblest and most exalted of all earth’s children,
fixed goal of eternal wisdom,
Thou art she through whom human nature
was ennobled, when the Creator
did not disdain to fashion himself on thee.
In thy womb was love reborn,
through whose warmth in eternal peace
this flower germinated.
Thou art for us the noonday torch
of charity, and here below, for mortals
thou art the lively fount of hope.
Lady, thou art so great, so worthy,
that whoever wants grace but seeks it not of thee
has a desire that, wingless, cannot fly.
Thy beneficence not only succours
those who ask, but many a time
freely anticipates the appeal.
