Biografia<br />

Sinéad Moira Cusack nata il 18 Febbraio 1948, è un attrice<br />

teatrale, televisiva e cinematografica Irlandese. Ha interpretato<br />

i suoi primi ruoli all’ Abbey Theatre di Dublino, prima di<br />

spostarsi a Londra nel 1975 per entrare nella Royal Shakespeare<br />

Company. Ha ricevuto due nomination al Tony Award: una<br />

per la migliore attrice protagonista in Molto rumore per nulla<br />

(1985), e una seconda per migliore attrice non protagonista<br />

in Rock ‘n’ Roll (2008). La Cusack ha sposato l’attore irlandese<br />

Jeremy Irons nel 1978, con il quale ha avuto due figli: Samuel<br />

James (b. 1978), e Maximilian Paul (b. 1985).<br />

Nel 1970, ha recitato assieme a Peter Sellers nel film Hoffman.<br />

Nel 1971, è apparsa come ospite in Attenti a quei due (con<br />

Tony Curtis e Roger Moore) interpretando Jenny Lindley, una<br />

Nel 1975 è apparsa per tre volte nella serie Quiller nel personaggio<br />

di ‘Roz’. Ha avuto il suo debutto a Broadway nel 1984<br />

con una performance di repertorio della Royal Shakespeare<br />

Company. Recitando assieme a Derek Jacobi, ha interpretato<br />

Roxane nella trasposizione di Anthony Burgess del Cyrano de<br />

Bergerac di Edmond Rostand (prendendo il posto di Alice<br />

Krige, che aveva interpretato Roxane nel tour di Londra) e Beatrice<br />

nell’opera William Shakespeare Molto rumore per nulla,<br />

diretta da Terry Hands.<br />

La produzione del Cyrano fu poi pubblicata in video nel 1985.<br />

Molto rumore per nulla fu prima prodotto al Royal Shakespeare<br />

Theatre presso Stratford-upon-Avon nel 1982-83,poi venne<br />

spostato al London’s Barbican Theatre per la stagione 1983-<br />

1984 dove fu aggiunto anche il Cyrano, prima che entrambe<br />

le opere si spostassero al New York’s Gershwin Theatre dall’<br />

Ottobre 1984 al gennaio 1985, per le quali la Cusack ricevette<br />

una nomination al Tony Award per la sua performance come<br />

Beatrice, e il suo coprotagonista Jacobi vinse il premio per<br />

l’interpretazione del suo Benedick.<br />

Biography<br />

Sinéad Moira Cusack, born on February 18, 1948, is an Irish theatre,<br />

television and film actress. She played her first acting roles<br />

in Dublin at the Abbey Theatre. In 1975, she moved to London<br />

and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. Sinéad Cusack has<br />

received two Tony Award nominations: the first for Best Actress in<br />

Much Ado About Nothing (1985) and the second for Best Supporting<br />

Actress in Rock ‘n’ Roll (2008). In 1978, Cusack married<br />

Irish actor Jeremy Irons and together they had two sons: Samuel<br />

James (b. 1978), and Maximilian Paul (b. 1985).<br />

In 1970, she starred with Peter Sellers in the movie Hoffman and<br />

the following year Cusack appeared as a guest star in an episode<br />

of The Persuaders! starring Tony Curtis and Roger Moore. She played<br />

Jenny Lindley, a very wealthy heiress who suspects of a man<br />

who claims to be her deceased brother.<br />

After moving to London, in 1975 Cusack made three appearances<br />

in the television series Quiller as the character Roz. She made<br />

her debut on Broadway in 1984 in Royal Shakespeare Company<br />

repertoire productions. Starring with Derek Jacobi, she played Roxane<br />

in Anthony Burgess’s translation and adaptation of Cyrano<br />

de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, a role that had been played by<br />

Alice Krige in London. Sinéad Moira Cusack also starred as Beatrice<br />

in William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, directed<br />

by Terry Hands.<br />

The production of Cyrano de Bergerac was released on video in<br />

1985. Much Ado About Nothing was first produced in Stratfordupon-Avon<br />

at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (1982-83) and for<br />

the following season was moved to London’s Barbican Theatre,<br />

where Cyrano also joined it. From October 1984 to January 1985,<br />

both productions were staged at New York’s Gershwin Theatre.<br />

Cusack received a Tony Award nomination for her performance<br />

as Beatrice, and her co-star Derek Jacobi won the award for his<br />

interpretation of Benedick.<br />

It was at this time that she and her husband Jeremy Irons took<br />

part in Shakespeare’s Winter’s Eve, a fundraising event for the<br />

Riverside Shakespeare Company of New York. Many other actors<br />

of the Royal Shakespeare Company also participated in the gala<br />
