THE HISTORICAL RECALL The historical recall of Palmanova takes place since more than 30 years every second weekend of July in honor of the Holy Redeemer, patron of Palmanova, and to remember an important event dating back to July 1602, when Gerolamo Cappello "quartermaster General of Friuli country" rose the flag of the Serene Highness Republic of Venice, in the middle of the Piazza Grande. In such an occasion hundred of figurants wearing costumes, helmets and cuirasses, invade the square to re-create the same atmosphere of four centuries ago. Noblemen and noble ladies show themselves in court-balls, halberdiers and armigers crowd the city space with duels and parades. The performance comes to an end by the sunset, and in the suggestive lights of the lamps, the St. Marco gonfalon is haul down. In 2009 the show will occur on Saturday 11th and Sunday 14th of July. There will be a lot of performances and entertainments: the meeting of renaissance and baroque groups, the battle on rampart, the historical dinner named “The Banquet of Captains”, gladdened by ancient music and the soldiering “palio”, an army manoeuvres challenge. 73
di Giovanni Foffani Clauiano, uno dei Borghi più belli d’Italia, nasce nel 1013 sotto il Patriarca di Aquileia. Dopo la distruzione dei Turchi, il dominio Veneziano e poi dell’ Impero Austro-Ungarico, nel 1866 entra nel Regno d’Italia, e conserva oggi nelle case e negli ambienti della vita contadina le molte e piccole tracce della storia. Va scoperto soprattutto entrando nei cortili; le aziende vinicole del paese sono sempre aperte ai visitatori con la loro accoglienza ed i loro prodotti di alta qualità. Clauiano, eines der schönsten Dörfer Italiens, entstand 1013 unter dem Patriarchen von Aquileia. Nach der Zerstörung seitens der Türken, der Herrschaft Venedigs und des österrischisch-ungarischen Reiches, gelang das Dorf 1866 an Italien. Clauiano behält noch heute in den Häusern und Räumlichkeiten zahlreiche Zeichen seiner Geschichte. Besonders interessant ist die Besichtigung der Innenhöfe: die Weinbaubetriebe des Dorfes sind für die Besucher immer geöffnet und bieten Freundlichkeit und qualitätsvolle Produkte. Clauiano, one of the most beautiful Medieval villages in Italy, has been founded by the Patriarch of Aquileia in 1013. After Turk invasion, Venetian and Austrian domination, became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1866. Its houses and stones bear the heritage of 1000 years of local history. Particulary interesting is the visit of internal courtyards of its famous wineries, open for guest reception.
