ARCHITECTURE DESIGNS 1920-1930 Entwicklungsarbeit, Krinski VKhUTEMAS, often referred to as the “Russian Bauhaus”, was a legendary art school of Modernism. This is the first exhibition in Germany to show an important sampling - mainly focused on architecture - of the work of VKhUTEMAS. In the 1920s artists like Ginzburg, Lissitzky, Popova, Rodchenko, Vesnin were teaching there. More than 250 works of teachers and students can be seen. The aim was to harness art and architecture to the task of making the “New Man”, thus bringing about a revolutionary renewal of the society. The exhibition includes multimedia elements and successfully integrates modern exhibition features together with original models and lavishly reconstructed historic facsimiles to help the visitor “feel” the atmosphere of the city then and now. A very special feature and a must-see is the nuclear bomb shelter from the Cold War. It is an impressive reminder of the fear in the days of the Cold War.
