THE CHEF’S TABLE |

THE CHEF’S TABLE | DECK 1 ANJA ELMINE BASMA 1981 X NORWAY X PHOTOGRAPHY Norwegian photographer Anja Elmine Basma works both in the studio and outdoors. Her primary motif is children, but she has also worked extensively with still lifes in fashion and editorial photography. Basma turned to digital photography in 2003 and has worked with the medium since. When working with still life, one of Basma’s preferred motifs is food, which she often arranges with ceramic kitchenware. This genre is one of the principal types used in Western art. Essentially, the subject matter of a still life painting, photograph or sculpture is any inanimate object, including all kinds of man-made or natural objects such as cut flowers, fruit, vegetables and wine. In the case of artists working in the postwar era, the still life genre is often a means to reference earlier periods in the history of art. 50
