MANFREDI´S ITALIAN RESTAURANT | DECK 1 ALTIN RAKIPLLARI USA X PAINTING Chicago-based Altin Rakipllari paints heavily impastoed cityscapes and landscapes, often abstracted by suggested weather conditions or an impressionistic use of color. He combines subject matters and techniques from impressionism with the gestural brushstrokes and suggestion of spontaneity that is seen in abstract expressionist paintings. Impressionists found that they could capture the momentary and transient effects of sunlight by working quickly in open air rather than in the studio. This resulted in a greater awareness of light and color. By combining this technique with the gestural qualities of abstract expressionism, Rakipllari retains the expressiveness and emotion of the latter style while revisiting the main impressionist subjects—landscapes and scenes of everyday life. Rakipllari’s Old House depicts a street of historic architecture, suggesting a European city most likely in Italy, with a balcony and warming daylight.
