MANFREDI´S ITALIAN

MANFREDI´S ITALIAN RESTAURANT | DECK 1 SERGIY LYSYY 1971 X UKRAINE X PAINTING Ukrainian Sergiy Lysyy has been living in Lithuania since 2011, where he has been spending a significant part of his time painting. He primarily paints city scenes, which have been displayed at exhibitions and biennials across the world. His watercolor Venice, San Marco was painted in a café at the iconic Piazza San Marco, the principal public square of Venice, Italy that is dominated at its eastern end by the great St. Mark’s Basilica and its clock tower. In this painting, Lysyy delicately demonstrates how light seeps through the arches of the Procuratie, the three connected buildings on the square. These historic buildings are also connected to the clock tower, and the arcades under it today house cafés, shops and the Correr Museum. VENICE, SAN MARCO | 2016 56

MANFREDI´S ITALIAN RESTAURANT | DECK 1 PAUL COOKLIN 1971 X UK X PHOTOGRAPHY In our digital world of “instant everything,” which is mostly mass produced, Paul Cooklin is drawn to analog film and traditional darkroom printing. His fondness for analog over digital film also comes from the nostalgic and timeless look of black and white film, with its tonal qualities and grain. He is also interested in the rules of negative and traditional printing methods, which he finds more rewarding due to the hands-on approach needed to make an individual gelatin silver print. Cooklin’s body of work consists of an eclectic collection of prints spanning various photographic genres that have been featured in nu merous publications and are represented by fine art publishers and galleries worldwide.
