<strong>Typically</strong> <strong>Dutch</strong><br />
Hopefully all of you enjoyed the Queens Day ball and reception last month<br />
and feel more ‘typically <strong>Dutch</strong>’ than ever. Also because that is the topic of this<br />
edition of the Double <strong>Dutch</strong>. Have you ever noticed that the further you get<br />
away from your own culture, the more fun and important it seems to maintain<br />
your own country’s traditions and customs? Judging by the orange enthusiasm<br />
for recent <strong>Dutch</strong> events, many of you may agree with this.<br />
So, what is ‘typically <strong>Dutch</strong>’? We have tried to find the answer to this question<br />
by interviewing people who work closely with fellow <strong>Dutch</strong> on a day to day<br />
basis. Have a look at the answers given by Belgian Anneleen who works at the<br />
DBAV, Vietnamese employees of Royal Haskoning and household helpers,<br />
working for <strong>Dutch</strong> families and see if you can relate.<br />
Also, in the last edition, we asked you to send us your best typically <strong>Dutch</strong><br />
photos. Out of all the great pictures that we received, a jury selected the<br />
winning photo, which is on the cover of this edition. Congratulations to<br />
Carla Rijnders-Matti for this beautiful picture and the eternal fame of having<br />
her picture on our cover! Have a look at page 13 to see more typically <strong>Dutch</strong><br />
pictures.<br />
In this issue of Double <strong>Dutch</strong> we are also pleased to introduce the new board<br />
of the DBAV. All 8 members very much look forward to taking on their roles<br />
and would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions or ideas. Read on<br />
page 11 to find the new board members presented.<br />
Finally, as you might have noticed, we have made some improvements to the<br />
layout of our magazine in order to make it easier for you to read. We would like<br />
to thank Ingrid Ploem for helping us by sharing her ideas on design and layout.<br />
