This is a proposal for a competition
to promote the brickindustry. In the
east of Holland, next to the city of
Nijmegen, the chimneys of brickfactories
are the cultural landmarks in a flat
riverlandscape existing of rivers and
uiterwaarden.
As the assignment asked for a recognizable
landmark or watchtower made of bricks,
we proposed a change of perspective by
making a pathway from the dikes down to
the uiterwaarden. This path consists out
of the rescaled dikeprofile which turns
around slowly. In this way the view from
the dike shows the scale and openness of
the riverlandscape and switches slowly
to a view on the soil, the clay and the
bricks used as paving
