TTS equipped RoRo completes Airbus logistics chain
A third state-of-the-art vessel, purpose-built to
support the Airbus logistics chain, and equipped
by TTS, was delivered on 21. April 2009
by Singapore Technologies Marine Shipyard
to Fret Cetam SA, the joint venture between
Höegh Autoliners and Louis Dreyfus Arma-
teurs.
The 125 metre long Ciudad
de Cadiz will be used to
transport huge parts for the
Airbus A380 commercial
aircrafts being built in Toulouse,
France. The vessel’s
sister ship, City of Hamburg,
was built at the same
yard and entered into service
in January 2009. These
two deliveries follow the
success of the first and larger
vessel,Ville de Bordeaux,
built in China by Jinling
Shipyard and delivered
in 2004.
All three vessels are equipped
with sophisticated TTS
cargo access equipment,
including specially designed
watertight stern doors,
ramps, liftable car decks,
hoistable trailer decks,
hatch covers and much
more.
As well as handling the
extraordinary size of the aircraft
parts, the equipment
allows the vessels to adapt
to carry other types of
cargo, as Mr Hervé Lapierre,
General Manager for
newbuildings at Louis
Dreyfus Armateurs, explains:
“Both the City of
Hamburg and Ciudad de
Cadiz are equipped with
three levels of liftable car
decksand can easily be turned
into vehicle carriers, for
transportation of new and
second hand cars, when not
under Airbus operation”.
“The Ville de Bordeaux
has a full-width hoistable
deck for trailers, which
allow quick rearrangement
into a RoRo trailer carrier.
The TTS equipment has
enabled the vessels to be
very flexible and increases
their operational use,” adds
Lapierre.
The shipment of aircraft
components from European
manufacturing sites to the
ultimate assembly plant in
Toulouse has constituted a
major logistical challenge.
The fore and aft fuselage
sections are shipped from
Hamburg, the tail section
from Spain, the cockpit and
central fuselage from St Nazaire,
and the wings from
Wales. They are all transported
by sea to Bordeaux,
NY TEKNIKK 04/2009
trans-shipped by barges and
finally shipped on a dedicated
motorway for assembly
in Toulouse.
Bulk Loading Stations
VNE can offer bulk loading stations for use on offshore platforms.
The reels are designed for 4” and 5” bulk hoses, and a typical
station would be fitted with reels for Diesel, Water Based Mud,
Oil Based Mud, Base Oil, Brine, Cement, Bentonite / Baryte,
Potable Water and Drill Water

Our stations offer:
Safe and reliable hose
handling, with benefit of
extended lifetime for
hoses and appurtenant cost
reduction.
Reduced risk of pollution, due
to less wear on hoses during
handling and deployment.
Service and operation
platform surrounding all
reels, with manoeuvre valves
placed next to each reel,
which gives the operator a
good (and important)
overview over reel, hose
and supply vessel during
hose handling.
