Portugal Yearbook - 2004

The Statistical Yearbook of Portugal (AEP) was
published for the first time in 1877 under the
title Statistical Yearbook of the Kingdom of
Portugal 1875.
With the formation of the National Institute of
Statistics (INE) in 1935, the AEP began to be
edited regularly, providing an overview of the
country and its development, as accurate as
possible.
As a reference publication, the Statistical
Yearbook has absorbed over the years the
emerging demands for new statistical
information; thus, its contents has been
continuously modernised and improved in order

to provide an accurate report of Portugal and
its positioning in Europe.
This edition contains more up-to-date
information comparatively to former editions,
achieving by this mean a new stage of
organisation and contents; but, as first attempt,
it aims for improvements in future editions.
O Anuário Estatístico de Portugal (AEP) foi
publicado pela primeira vez em 1877 sob a
designação de Anuário Estatístico do Reino de
Portugal 1875.
Com a constituição do Instituto Nacional de
Estatística (INE) em 1935, o AEP passou a ser
editado com regularidade, oferecendo a visão
tão exacta quanto possível da situação do País
e da sua evolução.
Sendo o AEP uma publicação de referência, ao
longo dos anos o INE tem nela integrado a
informação estatística emergente, deste modo
actualizando, diversificando e aprofundando o
seu conteúdo, e, por essa via, aperfeiçoando
progressivamente a visão de Portugal e da sua
inserção na Europa.
Surgindo com informação de maior
actualidade face a edições anteriores, o AEP
relativo a 2004 representa uma nova etapa
em termos de organização e de conteúdo da
informação, que, como primeira experiência,
naturalmente carecerá de aperfeiçoamento
em edições futuras.
