The Bayreuth center for colloid and <strong>in</strong>terface science is a central <strong>in</strong>stitution of the university of<br />
Bayreuth. Its ma<strong>in</strong> purpose is the <strong>in</strong>tensification of the university’s collaboration with regional,<br />
national and <strong>in</strong>ternational companies <strong>in</strong> handl<strong>in</strong>g colloidal systems. The central functions of the<br />
center are: (i) comb<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and strengthen<strong>in</strong>g colloid and <strong>in</strong>terface research rang<strong>in</strong>g from<br />
fundamental questions to <strong>in</strong>dustrial applications, (ii) provid<strong>in</strong>g aid <strong>in</strong> problem solv<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
optimization of <strong>in</strong>dustrial processes and (iii) mak<strong>in</strong>g the knowledge and experimental<br />
<strong>in</strong>frastructure at Bayreuth University accessible for <strong>in</strong>dustrial companies.<br />

• Synthesis of polymer systems for self-organiz<strong>in</strong>g nanostructures – analysis and<br />
characterization of high performance complex polymer structures<br />
• <strong>Nano</strong>particulate – based systems via molecular design<br />
• <strong>Nano</strong>particles for catalysis<br />
• Hybrid materials and <strong>Nano</strong>composites<br />
• Polymer compounds, nucleat<strong>in</strong>g agents and pigments – their synthesis,<br />
characterization, treatment and process<strong>in</strong>g<br />
• Micelles, microemulsions, colloids, gel former – and their application<br />
• Microemulsion – based new decontam<strong>in</strong>ation systems<br />
• Dynamic transport phenomena<br />
• “chemical tailor<strong>in</strong>g” of clay m<strong>in</strong>erals with all-round application - solid state<br />
chemistry and structural analysis at the transition of short range to long range order<br />
• Preparation and coat<strong>in</strong>g of porous ceramics specially for medic<strong>in</strong>e<br />
