The Laser Centre Hannover (LZH) is the lead<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitute <strong>in</strong> the field of nanomanufactur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g ultrafast lasers. Work<strong>in</strong>g directions nanoscience are: <strong>Nano</strong>particles, <strong>Nano</strong>-Drugs, <strong>Nano</strong>-<br />

Biomaterials, <strong>Nano</strong>composites, Two-Photon-Polymerisation, Micro- and <strong>Nano</strong>structur<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

Plasmonics.<br />

<strong>Nano</strong>-products and services are:<br />

• <strong>Nano</strong>particles of any solid material <strong>in</strong> various iquids<br />

• <strong>Nano</strong>composites<br />

• <strong>Nano</strong>pattern<strong>in</strong>g, Microstructur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

• 3D-<strong>Nano</strong>structures<br />

• Photonic Crystals, Plasmon nano devices<br />

such as<br />

Laser-manufactured ‘<strong>Nano</strong>-Cocktails’:<br />

<strong>Nano</strong>particles are used as functional elements <strong>in</strong> medical products. The embedd<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

nanoparticles <strong>in</strong>to a polymer is used to ‘bio-activate’ plastics with proliferative or<br />

antimicrobial effects.<br />

A novel technique has been established us<strong>in</strong>g laser ablation <strong>in</strong> liquids: Multifunctional<br />

nanoparticle-based polymer implants and nano-drugs are manufactured with 100% purity<br />

and stability. There are no restrictions <strong>in</strong> the nanoparticle material (metal, ceramic) and<br />

the liquid carrier. This novel method allows a homogenous manufactur<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

multifunctional medical products with embedded nanoparticles-mixtures, which are<br />

called ‘NANOCOCKTAILS’, shown dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Nano</strong>Tech2008 at the German Pavilion.<br />
