ENTREVISTA
E as empresas, unidas,
Estado. Nosso objetivo principal é congregar, promover e defender
desenvolvimento do manejo florestal sustentável.
Precisamos construir bons relacionamentos, saber
onde estamos inseridos e neste contexto trocar e disseminar
A IBÁ
plantadas do Brasil.
Temos diversos objetivos, dentre eles queremos ampliar o conhecimento
Precisamos construir a imagem real,
FLORESTAR. As to benefits, the primary is legitimacy in representation.
To have a sector spokesman, someone who can make a
non-unilateral defense of the Sector with public authorities. And
companies, united, get more benefits when they work together.
It is like a forest: when fragmented, it has less value than a forest
where there is a single massive block. So, a more united sector
can give the authorities and stakeholders a stronger message.
That is the predominant mission, attracting more members and
speaking with one voice.
What are the main focuses of the Association’s actions?
The Association consists of companies that operate in some way
in the production of planted trees. It mobilizes stakeholders, public
agents, and all possible economic resources to ensure the Sector’s
development in the State. Our main objective is to unite, promote,
and defend the members’ collective interests, to develop sustainable
forest management.
Can you explain a little better the representations of FLORESTAR
within other associations and government agencies?
FLORESTAR, like any association representing a particular sector,
especially a strong sector such as planted forests, has relationships
based on dialogue and relationship. We need to build good
relationships, know where we are inserted, and, in this context,
exchange and disseminate knowledge in a movement that we call
multistakeholder or multisectoral. We are already part, for example,
of the Brazilian Tree Industry (IBÁ), with which we are a member.
IBÁ promotes integration with all planted forest associations
in Brazil. This allows us to be aligned and connected with all the
agents of the Sector in the Country, who represent their respective
associations. This is important because it provides visibility. It is a
space for exchanging experiences, and we can explain more about
what we are doing in São Paulo.
What can the Association do to improve the Sector’s image visa-vis
society, especially with the lay public?
We have several objectives, and among them, we want to expand
the knowledge about the benefits of the activity and the recognition
of the Association with all institutions and public entities
of the State government, as well as with the municipalities and
legislative chambers where the companies operate. There are
many myths regarding planted forests. We need to build the actual
image, present the legitimate image that the Sector contributes
more to conservation and environmental preservation than any
other, and mitigate the impressions with respect to mythical impacts,
which are prevalent in this sense. Our goal is to expand the
engagement and interface of the Association on several fronts,
State and, mainly, at the local level, but on behalf of the entire
productive sector.
How does the Association deal with ESG?
ESG is a cross-cutting agenda that reaches all sectors. In the Forest-based
Sector, perhaps, it is one of the most important agendas
that benefit energy, water consumption, and carbon emissions.
And even the multiple use of the forest. For example, honey
production in planted forest areas is several tons. See how much
